Dear Dom,

I would recommend that you meet Tony first and make sure you are comfortable with him before you commit. Yes I have met Tony.

Also ask yourself the question whether you need a local accountant.

A post of mine that may assist. DaleGG and NickM are both capable property accountants who actively support this forum.

Dom,

I've done my first tax return with DaleGG this year just past and it less painful than using the guy down the road.

I posted down my Payment Summaries and relevant property documentation and it was all done without fuss.

All of this was done from Canberra - mail order accountant, and a good one to boot!

Cheers,

Chris.

How would you corespond with an accontant interstate?

Dear Dom,

Please take the time to read what is posted. Taken from my link already posted in this thread.

Originally one might think that an interstate accountant is not practical but in this electronic age this is not so. Phone, e-mail and fax are certainly preferred methods of communication and not only keep costs down but with e-mail ensure that you have more key parts in writing that is easy to go back and refer to later if need be.

Everytime you walk into an accountants office costs exponentially increase.

Cheers,

Sunstone.

Thankyou Sunstone,

I had an appointment with an accountant yesterday and was a little disapointed at his investment stategy's he advised me on, as he was not in the same type of thinking as i was(which is difficult to find i know).
He advised against any more property investing in the current market and told me to look for shares,National Australia bank and did you hear what happened to them yesterday how ironic.
I explained that my IP's were + geared and he advised to sell them ???????
I can see what he meant from a tax perspective but i am a low income earner ($35000 a year).
I am no better off than when i saw him, I think because i have read to many threads and books and talked to Property Investors and have grasped most of the concept and I am at a stalemate. He did recomend depreciation schedules were very important which i agree. I want to move forward with property Investing and i have the opportunity to do so.He said that their will be real bargains in 2008 DERRRR. Theirs always a bargain if you are prepared to divesify.
I will keep on investing in + geared propertys as i want to stop work earlier in my life. Anyway thats my winge for the day.
Cheers Dom ;)

Hi,

I'm in North West Brisbane now, was in Prague (Czech Republic) for 1.5 years, and prior to that Melbourne. During this time I used who I consider not only to be one of the best accountants around but also one of the nicest guys you will ever come across. Most here will know who I mean and that is Dale Gaterum-Goss. Despite the huge distances involves getting great advice and my tax returns completed quickly has never been easier. Plus I guarantee that you will never get better or prompter service anywhere else.

Cheers - Gordon A (I'm a Queenslander again  )

Dear Dom,

Good for you mate. :)

I still remember a RDPD joke.......... Why are they called brokers? Because they are broker than you.

Yes it is hard to get good advice. And yes you shouldn't have to educate your accountant.

I was educating my local mortgage broker............ The wrong thing to do. I want someone who has bigger clients who have made mistakes. That way I can learn from them and benefit from the brick walls they have already reached. So I changed my mortgage broker and my brick walls are now removed.

Send me a PM if you want/need to talk more about interstate accountants.

Keep an open mindset. (We all need a recharge once in a while. ;) )

Optimism, energy and meeting with likeminded people help make it a journey you want to be on.

Austini -Good for you mate. Glad to have you back in QLD. :)

Cheers,

Sunstone.

Hi There Dom,

if I were you (and I aint) I would serisouly consider parting with your accountant, or at least not using him as a property advisor.

Could not agree more with Gordon, you can not go wrong using Dale.
I live in Qld and have just started using his services. You will not regret it!

Dale! Dale! Dale! :)

... and no! Dale is not paying me for this.... well actually come to think of it, I am making money by using Dale.... so go figure..

i have used a guy on the nth side, near the valley, phil dyson of kennedy mclaughlin and associates.
hes very aproachable, and when you call you get the feeling that you'r his only client and that he was waiting just for your call.
hes not a financial advisor, none of them are, and hes on the conservative side, but he knows his stuff, and he knows what isnt his stuff.
the only problem is getting in with him, he may have closed his books.

if you want legal advise get a lawyer, if you want financial advice, buy books, educate yourself, read forums, dont go to a financial advisor, but if you need accounting advice get a good accountant. imho its often best to get individuals who know their area extremly well, and who know their boundries just as well. good luck.
