Hi all,

I have 1 IP in Melbourne which has an electric cooker.
Will gas cooker be more attractive to tenents?

How easy it will be to convert it?
How much extra (e.g. gas plumber) is need on top of cost of a gas cooker?

Thanks a lot.

Hiya Charliey,

I don't think it's possible to convert elec to gas, there are those on the forum who would know this better than I, and I'm sure one will either prove or disprove my thought.

However, if the Electric cookers are working, I'd leave them be. I have never seen tenants who have refused a property because they didn't like the elec cooker.

If it were my money, I'd value add to the property and put in an Air con or a Dishwasher, or Ceiling fans at worst...

Just a thought, hope it helps,

asy :D

I'm with Asy on this. If you've got electricity, stick with it.

Though if there's extra benefits to be gained by having gas (eg heating if there's none there already- if the IP is in a cooler location)- check it out.

Sometimes the gas people will pay you a subsidy for having gas connected.

Hi Charliey,

I'm with Asy & Geoff on this... one of my IPs in Melb has an electrick upright cooker (cooktop/Oven/Grill) & although it wasn't something I'd prefer (came with IP & was fairly new), has never been a problem when looking for a tenant...

Cheers,

Manny.
