It's June and it's time for another "Workshop".

This time our guest speaker is Rolf Latham of ASAP Financial Services Sydney- who will be well known to most of you .

Before opening his own mortgage broking firm in 1998, Rolf was working for a major accountancy firm specialising in structuring complex loans for their larger clients.

So with that we thought it only fitting to have Rolf give us a presentation on structuring and some case studies

Topics covered will be
.Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) wonderful tool or ridiculous rip off
.Cross Collateralisation, what is it and why do lenders like it
.Interest rate management... It's more than just taking a punt on fixed rates
.Open forum, case studies and questions

Venue
When: Saturday 26th June (This Saturday week)
Where: Hotel Kurrajong Canberra, National Circuit, Barton- booked under "Somersoft Forum"
Time: 12 noon start. Presentation to finish in 1½ hours which leaves time for questions.
Who's invited: anyone who might be interested in structured lending- so yourself and friends
Cost: A $5 donation will help cover the room hire. A receipt will be given.

A number of the topics suggested I am very interested in.

Would it be possible for someone to take notes - or obtain a copy of slides or whatever? I would be happy to make a $5 donation to whoever if required.

As long as there is enough of us Perthites (always a problem...) it wouldn't cost too much - anyone else up for it? Maybe we should ask Rolf first.... :)

If you want to organise something

1. Talk to the person you would like to talk to you. Presumably there will be a win/win situation invoved. The people who come will learn a lot- and maybe one or two will become clients. The person who presents will get to visit a new place, presumably with some recompense, and may pick up new clients

2. Determine the numbers. Make sure there's enough people to make it worth while for the speaker. (perhaps this should be step 1?)

3. Organise a venue. Obviously there is a big variation in cost. Sometimes a school, a licenced club, or a senior citizens club can be obtained for a smaller rate. Refreshments can be an issue- and some venues charge a lot for basic coffeee and bikkies. You don't want to make a profit- you just want to cover costs- and maybe there will be enough left over to give the presenter a nice gift.

4. Publicise the event, and make sure as many people as possible attend.

There a number of forumites out there who may well be interested in being a guest speaker. While I don't speak for anybody, we have had a lot of expertise in Canberra forum come and speak. Obviously it costs a little more for people to get to Perth- but it should be possible to arrange something.

It was a great presentation. I learnt heaps. And from all the comments the other people did too.

And thanks to Ed too for your presentation on xcolls. Especially with only two days notice- that was a great job.

My lesson is that two hours is not enough. We finished after 2:30, and people were still asking questions half an hour later.

10 hours, 6 beers and a bottle of merlot to short !!!

(and, while on the topic- Ed did leave early for his son Tom's birthday party- Tom was immensely proud of what his dad did in front of all those people).
