I just heard the famous Richard Bandler (he;s the guy who got famous as being the co-originator of Neuro LInguistic Programming - the behavioural science that made Anthony Robins famous and changed his life. He turned the whole psychology field upside down and proved them mainstream psychology and therapy/psychiatric process wrong and useless) spoke in an audio tape seminar, that in the 80s, he was working with computers and designing compilers and stuff.

He said one day he was at home with his big computer, and he logged into the University of California main library online catalog. He said "And the next day..... the entire online record of the library disappeared! Ops,.... I guess I screwed up! I was just hacking in there seeing if I could find some books... but I made a mistake and had created a bug or worm program, which later would be known as a 'virus'...."

Then after a while, the US government agencies approached him and asked him to design some 'virus files', so that when the Russian spies stole any secret US files, the hidden virus files will go into their system and delete every damn thing! This was during the Cold War.
