We'd like to have a lunch get together somewhere on the northside on the last Sunday in August - as per the rough schedule on http://www.somersoft.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14584

But neither Ed nor myself know the north side very well- and some people weren't too happy with our choices this year.

Our criteria are:

. Not too expensive
. Not too noisy surrounds (we're there to talk)
. Easy to move around

Venue suggestions are welcome.

(My own preference is towards clubs- they also provide cheap alcohol :D )

OK, I don't know the northside that well. I checked out the Canberra Labour Club today.

Like any club, it's noisy.

But there's still room for a group.

And they have a very reasonable Sunday lunch special. $10 gives you the choice of three roasts or a chicken schnitzel- and includes a drink (a schooner of beer, a glass of wine or a soft drink) and a dessert.

It may not be the best venue around- but I did give people the chance!

And some are not so far along the road towards independence.

Although we would like an indication of numbers, I won't do a sign in sheet. A one year membership to the club is $2.20- and if there's a group, only one person needs to join- and that person can sign in the other members of the group.

So

As always, please email Ed on fwied@fwi.net.au if you'd like to come along (or even if you can't make it this time, but would like to be notified of future meetings).

some people weren't too happy with our choices this year.Just to expand (after a query)
.There were complaints about one venue last year (vego pizza wasn't to everybody's liking)
.Some people didn't like the last venue (Hellenic Club)

I'm going to have to check- maybe the restaurant won't be in action- http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,10388486%255E1702,00.html Car smashes through club

A CAR smashed through the main doors of a Canberra club today – before motoring through the building and out through a plate glass window.

The 4am incident startled the several patrons in the Canberra Labor Club, police said...

Hi All,

Geoff's just going to touch base with the club before we email all. Don't want it to be too breezy...

So a car crashing into the club is usual?

:D

It's already been done in Parliament house, so people in Canberra don't see it as unusual any more.

OK Watch Out

Invasion of the Mexicans!!!

Daughter and I will be in Canberra for the UC open day on Saturday 28th.

Roast of The Day on Sunday sounds pretty good.

Any uni-student-age investors in Canberra?

If Fiz gets into her course, she will be looking to buy a flat. Collective comments on good suburbs for students to live in would be welcome.

She is hoping to be able to afford two bedrooms, so she can have a flatmate for company and to share expenses.

I look forward to meeting with you all then!

Regards

Kristine

Hello everyone and particulary Geoff

Sorry that Daughter and I didn't make it to the lunch after all.

But we were glad to have the opportunity of a quick meeting with you, Geoff.

You made a positive impression on Feasie, and she really liked your flats.

However, it rained most of the way home, so by leaving a bit earlier at least most of that 650kms drive was in daylight.

I must say how impressed we were with Canberra. It's 10 years since I visited, and the roads are just amazing. Also, I can't remember so many trees!

It's like driving through a forest or the bush as soon as you get out of the actual street light areas.

Mike & I lived at the top of Monaro Cres in Red Hill in 1981. it was all still a bit 'sleepy hollow' back then. Now, Manuka and Kingston are all restaurants and night life.

We hope you all had a good lunch

Regards

It was fantastic to meet you and K Jr.

I'm glad she liked the flock of bats.

I'm sorry that our time was limited. Hopefully we can remedy that sometime.

As regards Canberra and U of C.

It's been mentioned to me that public transport is available form Ngunnawal (should you choose to purchase there) to U of C with a book of ten ickets for about $7.50.

A fairly cheap, and direct, option.
