SIM or mods,

I'm one of those guys that keeps this forum open in the background all day at work and every now and again cruise on over and click the "New Posts" link to see what's going on. This works well most of the time, but sometimes I get a nice big active list of topics with quite a few that interest me, I then duck out for a coffee or take a half hour break and when I come back and click again they've dropped off. What's more they're all marked as read and I definately haven't read the thread.

What am I doing wrong, and how can I specify the timeframe for my new post search. ie. All posts within the last 24hrs or since my last visit. I tried this in the search engine but it requires keywords or authors as well which is no good.

I read virtually every post in the forum and its frustrating when they auto mark as read or drop off the active list...

Thanks,
Michael.

click the "New Posts" link to see what's going on ... take a half hour break ... they've dropped off ... all marked as read
Hi Michael,

This used to annoy me also, but I found a simple solution.

- click "New Posts" to see what's new

- top right hand side shows "Page 1 of 4" (for example), and you are currently on Page 1

- Then open a New Window for every one of those additional "New Post" pages so in this example, I would open another 3 windows (or new tabs if your browser supports it)

The result is I have several pages open, showing me the links to all New Posts since my last visit.

I then use these pages to open new windows for the messages that I want to read.

It gets around the half hour rule.

One other tip... if you are writing a loooong reply to a message, before you go and click the Submit or Preview button, it can be useful to highlight all the text you have been typing using Ctrl+A (or Edit->Select All) and then copy it to the clipboard with Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+Insert or Edit->Copy).

That way, if your 30 minute session has expired, you don't lose your message because you can just paste it back in from the clipboard.

So yeah, just Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C before hitting that Submit button can save losing a well thought out message.
