Ok Sorry I know this isnt about Property,
You can delete this thread if you want but im kinda stuck.

I wront my friend who is an Acocuntant to ask him about Tax and my mobile phone. He was in a rush so he couldn't explain it to me clearly.

But my problem is, I have a mobile phone that I use for personal use and work use.
I am currently not on a phone plan but one of thoese pre-paid ones (I chosoe this method so i can chop and change how much i want to spend on my phone bill a month)

My problem is.. because I dont get a phone bill, i dont have any real record.
So when it comes to tax time I want to claim my phone as a work expense.. yet how am I ment to prove it?

Thanks for putting up with me :)

Unfortunately you may have to diarise - write down each call you make, length etc. Don'y know if you'd need to do it constantly, or just over a set period to demonstrate percentages...

Don't you get a reciept everytime you pay for a top up? ie: Everytime you purchase more credits. This would have on it the amount you paid. Use this for your tax.

That is correct.

I was orginally planning to supply all my 'top up' reciepts if the taxman comes around.
but my accountant mate said that wasnt good enough?

i think it was because i use the phone for personal and work use.
Im sure it will be fine just showing 'top up' reciepts

The receipts are sufficient proof.
Just measure your usage for a month via a log to establish a % of work related calls and use that % for all your bills.
