Do any Canberra locals know where one might find some accomodation this Wednesday? Everything seems to be booked solid with the Parliament and the hockey.

Cheers

Ah yes, no doubt the ***** will set aside about a nanosecond to consider Tuong Van Nguyen and his family.

And the parents of 26,000 heroin addicts will be applauding him.

A small percentage might be.. its a very long bow to draw to suggest that the parents of all addicts would support his hanging.

Hi Duncan,

A phone in survey from Sydney today: 73% for, 27% against.

Personally, I don't believe in capital punishment, too many mistakes have been made over the years and you can't bring them back when it is too late.

But the guy is a drug runner, he is not an addict funding his own addiction.

Even his own brother says he should not have done it.

However all that not withstanding, John Howard cannot send the Army in and he appears to have done a lot of talking, along with other leaders and the Singapore govt are adamant at this stage.

I honestly believe if he could do any more he would.

None of this has anything to do with the Prime Minister hosting the Prime Ministers Cup, an event that has been in place for years and is a tradition in the sport.

No ones asking for the army to be sent in just a vigorous, meaningful effort to have his sentence commuted.

Personally, I don't care for the guy, I find his crime as loathsome and disgusting as you do.. but I find the burden placed on his family and friends at this time nothing short of barbaric and horrible. His Mother stuck behind a glass wall in her efforts to help her son through his own execution, having to officially seek permission to give him a hug.. The idea of helping my own son or daughter through an execution after they've naively, stupidly gotten involved in a crime... an idea to horrible to contemplate.. then a Prime Minister who through wishy-washy language and actions giving Singapore virtually a tacit approval to go ahead with the execution.. I feel physically ill at the whole situation..

Phone in polls are worthless and always horribly skewed.. Birds of a feather flock together when it comes to Radio stations (if thats what it was).

With respect to Monoply, and as the person who took this off track- can we get back to the original post, and ask if anybody knows of any accommodation available on Wednesday?

(There's a vague possibility I have a furnished unit in Queanbeyan available in the flock of bats- I'll have to check- but I would not have bedclothes)

Mono,

Try Queanbeyan Motels. Only 15 minutes drive to Canberra.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the replys Geoff and Helma,

Looks like some accomadations has finally been found, although possibly not the best. Hotel Formule 1. Beggars cannot be choosers. Looks like a very busy week in Canberra.

Cheers

monoI stayed in a Formule 1 a few weeks ago in Campbelltown. It is basic, but comfortable. Don't expect "basics" like phone or coffee facilities. But it's got a TV and bathroom (which seems like one you might get in a submarine :) ). You have to get breakfast in the dining room or elsewhere. And the price is right.

The one in Canberra is not too far away from Dickson, which has some excellent dining facilities.

But don't forget that you're not too far away from Subway Belconnen :D (send me a PM if you'd like to say hello)
