There's a new movie coming out about the "first" of the Narnia chronicles- "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe".
I loved the book when I was younger (ie yesterday :D ). I enjoyed the BBC series immensely. But I'm not sure how the Hollywood/Disney thing will treat it.
IMDB.com has one single preview viewing so far- 9 out of 10.
But I was so disappointed with another old favourite translated into movies (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) that I don't want to expect too much.
It will be interesting to see.

I saw the stage production of it with the puppets that was in Brissy (about a year ago maybe). It was outstanding!!
I am not sure if I want to see the movie as I don't want it to ruin that experience. This happened after seeing the stage show of Chicago and then that movie came out......... dissapointed I was!!!

Just took my first born to see the new Chronicles of Narnia movie today. Having not read the original book, I cannot judge on how authentic the movie is, but I can say that as an adult I enjoyed the film immensely and as a big kid I can imagine that kids of all ages would enjoy it too. It was a bit much for my 4 year old as his attention span didn't last till the end of the movie.
The other week I saw parts of a TV special on the making of the movie and the creators said that they couldn't have made the film 10 years ago but could now due to the advancement of CGI technology. And it showed. They were able to bring so many of the animal characters to life.
Anyone else seen it yet? Your thoughts??
BTW, Geoff, same feelings about the HGTTG movie.
I took the kids to see Narnia on opening day. I had re-read the book in anticipation of seeing the movie.
Well! I was VERY pleased with the movie. It was EXCEPTIONAL!
Not only was it an amazing movie, BUT they've basically used the book as their screenplay. It's probably THE closest book-to-movie I've ever seen.
Go see it, you won't be dissappointed.

Lots of user reviews on imdb (http://imdb.com/title/tt0363771/) now- most of them 8-10 stars, but some rather much lower.

Also saw it the other day. Haven't read the book and didn't know what to expect. Came away thinking it was a very good movie, with great effects.
In my opinion, much better than any of the Harry Potter movies, although I'm not a HP fan.

I am surprised at how few people have actually read the book! Even my girls are sick of it as going to several schools they jagged it being studied a number of times and are so sick of it they are not keen on the movie - but I will take them anyway!
This series was certainly a staple in my childhood along with several other CS Lewis books. But then I was a voracious devourer of books - one of those kids who read all night if Mum didn't check my light was off.

We saw the movie after christmas with our girls, aged 8 and 9. They both liked the movie.
We read the book before, which made the book more interesting.

Well I saw the movie and I agree it's a good movie - for children.
I found it very simplistic. I read the book when I was about 10 years old and it seems that for that age group it'd be a good movie.
Adults might prefer The Constant Gardener.

My Mum and my wife both saw that movie and haven't stopped raving about it since.

Saw the movie on Boxing Day. Thought it was really good. Its an awesome looking lion. The movie is probably even more special for Christian people familiar with symbolisms.

I saw this movie the other day and was fairly impressed over all. Certainly not an awesome movie but I enjoyed it. My only negative feeling for the movie was that it seemed to come and go so quick. I can half remember the old BBC series and I used to love that, but I was quite young at that stage as well.
You certainly wouldn't miss anything by waiting for it to come out on DVD.

The Chronicles is my favourite "fantasy" books. I really recommend that the whole series be read in order as the LWW is actually the second in the series. It was written in the 50's and seems very quaint and dated when read today, and definately has Christian and religious undertones - but still beats anything else in the fantasy genre IMO. I am looking forward to seeing the movie to see how closely it portrays the book and for the special effects.

I still haven't had a chance to see it :(
But apparently it's doing very well down under- in the Belfast news because C S Lewis was apparently born there- http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/story.jsp?story=674976
I always liked his dedication To Lucy Barfield
My Dear Lucy,
I wrote this story for you, but when I began it I had not realized that girls grow quicker than books. As a result you are already too old for fairy tales, and by the time it is printed and bound you will be older still. But some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again. You can then take it down from some upper shelf, dust it, and tell me what you think of it. I shall probably be too deaf to hear, and too old to understand, a word you say, but I shall still be
your affectionate Godfather,
C.S. Lewis
