I would like to know can you split ownership of managed funds and shares like property.
eg. Mr A. 10% owner Mrs.A 90% owner.
Lets say l buy $100,000 of Navra or Spann Funds [as examples].
These funds are income funds.[we hope]
Mrs A has the lowest income so she would benifit from increased income but still taxed at a lower rate.
Mr A has higher income but would benifit from tax deductions.
What would be the right way of doing this to get the best of both income at lower tax, and tax rebates for the higher income earner?

Why not just buy in separate names in the proportion that suits ?

Or even better. Buy the units through a trust- the benefits can be apportioned as circumstances changed.
For many years, I was the higher income earner, by far, and I thought that this would never change. So the first properties we bought were in my name.
The last property was bought through a trust.
Then Subway came along- we are both contributing to the business, so we pay ourselves 50% each.
I planned for me being the bigger income earner for a long term- but things have changed. And it is changing all the time.
Having the property in thge trust can make sure that income is distributed in the best possible way, as regards tax.
I wack all my stuff in a trust from the begining even if I make a lost because I can manage the repayment without the tax deduction. I use my tax deduction for other purpose like leasing car, computers, salary sacrify into super etc...
I then mark the lost against my trust for a long as I need until my captial gains, cash flow can fill in the gap.
so over the year I could accumulate a huge -ve cash flow in hundred of thousands but then one day my trust return from all these investments start to go +ve and I deduct all the lost I have ever accumulated :-)
so I have a very small tax bill to pay ..
Not sure if it is the best way to go but I found that alot easier for me to deal with :-)
any expert? Dale?
