Hi,

Are there any building depreciation costs you can claim in the tax year just prior to commencing renting? Or would the building have to be completely finished and ready for renting prior to commencing to claim and of the building depreciation deductions? I'm assuming the latter but thought I'd ask.

We waited until the Financial year the building was finished, as Quantity surveyors wont be allowed on site prior to completion to do the proper Depreciation report. And with a new building, you will want the best possible report to get the best deductions.

Yep. It needs to be available to be rented.
