I am 18 in Sydney , I am looking to buy some sort of house ( one story brick ) am I better buying one in sydney for about $450K or in Wollongong $180K or maybe even Brisbane , melbourne ???

In the long term I want all my properties to be in sydney ( well most, besides the penthouse in New York hehehe...) so am I best to start in sydney, or a couple of smaller ones then move back into sydney ??

Thanks.. email me M.jones@biodata.com

Hi Mark

Where to invest really depends on the amount of capital you have available and the returns you can get. If you are 18 and can invest in a $450K property you are definitely in the top % of investors.

The first question to ask yourself is "what business am I in?"

Second question is "what type of return do I want?"

Third question is "what risk/headache threshold can I handle?"

Fourth question "what % return am I aiming for?"

Fifth question "under what circumstances is negative gearing good for an 18yr old?"

One of those is a trick question. ;-)
