There was an attachment to one post in the forum- it was an Excel spreadsheet compressed into a zip.

I attempted to save the attachment as either a Word document or a rich text format (rtf). I found that I could not attach either format.

I had to resort to posting as a jpg. In this instance, it was probably enough.

But will it be possible to attach Word documents or rtfs?

I realise that the preference is for PDF. Or HTML.

But, I do not have any access to generate PDF. And the HTML generated by Word appeared to be very specific to Interent Explorer. As well as big.

Do we have a chance of attaching a file in other formats please?

Dear Geoff,

Agree that being able to attach other types of files could be useful.

However an immediate possible solution for you. Jump onto Kazaalite and grab a copy of the full version of Adobe Acrobat yourself from another helpful user.

Cheers,

Sunstone.

Sunstone,

I will check ot Kazaalite - buit not tonight. Thanks for that.

But it will not be something that will help me when I check the forum at work. Of course, only foruming during my 10 minute luch break will limit my possibilities. As will downloading anything.

I suggest that people do not use file sharing tools and services to acquire pirated software. It is illegal and immoral. You are stealing from the authors of the software. There is no difference between using pirated software and walking down to your local computer shop and stealing a laptop.

As for attachments, I strongly recommend that people zip their files before attaching them. This will save space on Ian's server, will save bandwidth by reducing the size of the file people download, and will allow you to post document types that are not specifically permitted by the upload options.

It also allows a little bit more security since the file downloaded will have two chances to be virus scanned - once as it is downloaded and once again as the file inside it is opened.

WinZip is free for personal use... http://www.winzip.com/

Ah, OK. I did not realise that's what Kazaalite was all about. It's quite evident on rereading Sunstone's post. Doh.

I've annoyed mrsW on various occasions by buying software which I could have borrowed.

I wasn't sure about winzip in this case- the poster could not read an Excel file which was zipped, it wasn't clear whether it was the zip file of the Excel spreadsheet which could not be read.
