Number of private messages in box

Dear Sim,

Quick couple.

1) How many private messages are allowed in our inbox?

2) Should we look at increasing this number?


I understand that we want to limit extending certain things based on the amount of additional resources that Ian S ends up paying for. I know however that many of us like to keep copies of private messages sent to ourselves (Yes we are becoming incessant electronic collectors) for our own personal reference.

We could move people over to sending e-mail to each other but that would mean interaction not through the website which could possibly mean less activity on the site. Does less interaction on the site slow down it's growth?

The current setting is 70 messages. I suggest that you do not let yourself get to that level - as the system will prevent new messages being sent to you. Actually on second thoughts, I've just changed it to 100... 70 is just such a silly number, 100 is much more... well... pleasant !

I will not increase the figure beyond this - we are not providing a mailbox service to people here. If your information is that important then it should be posted in a public forum for all to see. The forum database is already approaching 100 MB in size.

If people really don't want to delete their PMs then I suggest they cut and paste the text into notepad or Word or something and save them on their own computers.
