A lazy idea.

I am more short of time than cash, so was wondering if I could get away with minimal cleaning/sanding before painting.

There was a thread wich talked about 4 parts water - 1 part Bondall to get good adhesion, or a product called COVER ALL.

If I was to use these products, how much cleaning do I need to do before hand?..Apart from dusting, can I get away with no cleaning?

Does anybody know a fast way to clean walls?...Can you use a high pressure water thing like a Karcher?

Also (gees..I don't ask for much) is there any trick to cleaning ceilings?

I was thinking of using a sponge mop and tricleanium (sugar soap). Any easier way?

Cheers

Noddy, Noddy, Noddy............. :)
There ain't no magical way to avoid thorough cleaning, I'm afraid. But if someone comes up with a way, I'd love to hear it :)

I use chlorine and water to clean walls with a no. of cloth nappies, as I've found sponges tend to leave little pieces behind, as the sponge disintegrates after a while. As for ceilings, try the sponge, wrapped in a chux or nappy. Much better result.

Paint will simply not adhere to dirty surfaces as effectively as clean ones and you will be sorry if you don't prepare properly.

As for using a high pressure hose, I've never tried it but don't see how you could avoid a whole lot of wet mess (we are talking interior walls here aren't we?).

Let us know how you go and what you find works well regardless.:)

If your walls aren't properly prepaired, you'll only end up removing the peeling paint and starting from scratch in a few years. Do the job right, and you'll save a lot more time and money in the long run.

Hi all,

The idea was not to avoid preparing, but to spend less time.

I have so far considered "cover-stain" which is a stick-to-anything undercoat/sealer.

This should allow a good sand to remove flakey paint but only a quick wash.

Mr Bunnings also suggested tricleanium instead of Sugar Soap as it is not as caustic and does not leave a nasty residue.

Regarding the water problem if a waher is used, I was thinking a VAX or AQUAVAC to such up the water. Flooring is currently floor boards so I figured I may be able to get away with it.

Cheers
