Hi all,

I have read Jan's book but am wondering what her seminars are like. Can anyone give me an idea? There's one coming up early next year and I am thinking of going but would like to know if you really learn a lot more at the seminars? And what are the best things about her seminars? What can I expect? (I've never attended any investment type seminars).

Thanks in advance.

Schnugg,

I think you will find Jan's seminar informative, and very hands on (take a calculator!!).

I haven't been to one, (Was supposed to go to the last one, but didn't have babysitting...) but did talk to her about it after.

I believe it was a lot about the software and the theory behind the software, as in how it works, how to 'do the numbers' on an investment.

Les went, and I am sure he will add his information to this thread.

I was really sorry I missed it... Will try to get to the next one in BNE.

If you go, let us know what you think!!

Yes, I believe that this round of seminars that Jan and Ian are running together are different to seminars that Jan has done before. These new ones are very hands on - as opposed to a straight lecture about her theories and experiences like she has done before.

G'day Schnugg,

Compared to Henry Kaye's seminars Jan Somer's are very boring!
That being , if you want the excitement of swimming with a shark
them Henrys your man. Very exciting, talks under water with a mouth full of marbles. Speaks at a million miles an hour. Never answers a question. Wants you to sign up for big money programmes $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Jan Somers gets up there says how it is, no glamour or shyt.
At J.S. seminar no mention of money for courses. Jan sells her books and Ian's property investment analysis software. As I said
on a posting years ago I would gladly send my kids to see Jan Somers.
I'm a seminar junky, provided it;s free or near to free.
On the 25th of Nov. I'm going to a fellow called Jim Downs. I don't
know anything about him so here's for some eduction and entainment.

Winners make it happen,
losers let it happen.

G'day Schnugg,

I have read Jan's book but am wondering what her seminars are like. Can anyone give me an idea?

Les>> Some great answers already - but yes, I did get to the Brisbane seminar, and was glad I did!! But, I could be biased - I have always enjoyed Jan's writing style - she gets to the point, but doesn't labour it - if you miss it, better re-read the book (quite unlike RK - he says the same thing multiple times to make sure you got it....) And her new seminar is full of little gems of information - don't leave the room, even for a minute.....

There's one coming up early next year and I am thinking of going but would like to know if you really learn a lot more at the seminars?

Les>> Possibly depends on which of her books you've read - and how many times you've re-read them. Also, are you the type of person that gains more from being in the presence of people, and being able to ask specific questions, and receiving a specific answer? Or do you prefer books? And, having read a book, do you put it on the shelf, or do you re-read them periodically? I've found that a previously read book takes on a whole new meaning as your knowledge grows (but you've got to re-read it to get the new meaning...)

And what are the best things about her seminars? What can I expect? (I've never attended any investment type seminars).

Les>> Expect (as someone else said) "Jan Somers gets up there and says how it is, no glamour or shyt." There is no loud music, dancing on chairs, nor provocation ..... There is just a well-rounded, up-to-date presentation of the "state of the nation" relating to Investing in Property. And, yes, for those who have already got their feet wet, some of the presentation could appear to be "basic" (i.e. you could read it in one of Jan's books) - but the presentation allows for Questions and Answers from someone who is referred to as "the average millionaire housewife" And that is Jan - unpretentious, all-round good guy with a wealth of experience, and a no-nonsense presenting style. She calls a spade a spade - unless she happens to trip over one, in which case I don't know what she might call it ;)

And this seminar series also gives a large percentage of time (30% plus?) to the use of Ian's PIA software - and this in-depth presentation was worth attending just on its own. I've had PIA for a couple of years, but found it wasn't intuitive in its use (but, then, I'm getting on a bit .... a bit slow, perhaps....) so "stuck it in the cupboard". Seeing Ian present it, and seeing its power IN ACTION, has had me drag it out of the cupboard again, and start using it as it can be used. It really is a powerful piece of software - and I think I've finally found just what IRR is - and how important it is in the scheme of things.

For me, it was just what was needed. I'm a "show me" kind of bloke - I get a bit out of books, and a bit out of audio, but SHOW me, and I can relate to it. For me, meeting up with Jan and Ian has been a pleasure, and a major shot-in-the-arm.

What type of person are you, Schnugg? Are you an "audio" type, or "visual", or whatever those other different types are.... Or do you function best when someone shows you? Or do you learn best by trying it yourself?

Your move, Schnugg - you're gunna have to answer this one.

For ME, attending was a MUST!!!

I am sure the somers would be more informative/beter value for money than some of the QLD guru presenters mentioned in this article:
