Forum contains Unread Messages

The opening list of forum topics (eg. Community, Coffee Lounge etc) shows a yellow icon if the forum contains unread messages. But often I am find that I click on the forum only to find I have already read everything?

What am I doing wrong?

It only counts something as read over a visit. so if you jump out of the site for a while and jump back, everything will be updated. But if you go out and straight back in again, the cookie which keeps track of what you are doing won't have time to expire, so you won't ready fresh read and unread icons.
vv - if you don't read something, and leave, the fourm will mark it as read when you come back.
