My computer has been in hospital and now the chat room is gone
Can some one explain??
Fredo
Were you accessing the chatroom from the forum (using web browser) ? Or from mIRC ?
The link to the chatroom from the forum is there, on the main page up in the top right hand corner.

When you say main page I press the home button and see no direction to chat
I dont know what MIRC is
Regards Frank
No, not the home button. Click on the "Somersoft" logo in the top left hand corner of this page. It will take you back to the forum home page.
Otherwise go to this link (it's the same thing): http://www.somersoft.com/forums
That's what I mean by the main forum page.
You must be logged in to the forum to be able to see it, but I'm guessing you are because you can post messages !
I'm glad you found your way back to the chatroom fredo.

Hi Sim,
I'm also having trouble getting into the chat room. The error message is telling be that the client can't connect to the server.
This was using the forums' java client. I also tried to connect using chatzilla (part of mozilla browser) and got the same result.

Firewall might have the ports that IRC uses blocked ?
Actually I think the java client on the site gets around that, but Im not sure.
Sim ?

Nope, the java client is downloaded and executes on your own computer - so it needs to be able to connect back to the server to be able to chat.
Most common problems are firewalls and proxy servers.
PT_Bear: do you have a firewall ? do you use a proxy server ? what is your ISP ?
You may also like to try mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) - it has good support for connecting to the chat servers through proxy servers and such.

DOH !!!
{PT_Bear slaps himself with a wet fish as he remembers the company's put in a new firewall}
Good point guys. I really should have thought of that. I'll give it a shot from home tonight and reply if there's still a problem.
