Hi,

I've just had a message that, because my Private Message Queue is full, a PM has been bounced.

I don't mind cleaning out PM's, having them expire, or getting a warning that I'm about to reach a limit.

But, is there any way the software (next version, on the wishlist), can warn me that I'm about to hit a limit?

I assume the limit is set at 99 or 100 posts, and it includes sent as well as received posts.

I, too have had that message, and found it annoying...

The thing that worries me is, does the message "un-bounce" when you clean the message box out? Or is the message lost forever?

And, what message does the sender receive, that the recipient's mailbox was full, or that the message was returned (and no reason, might this look rude?)...?

I increased the limit from 70 messages to 100 messages a while back. You need to be aware of this limit and be proactive in managing your mailbox.

I suggest that you start with deleting all sent messages older than a week.

There is a great tool for archiving your private messages - it's called "Notepad" and involves using the copy-and-paste features of the Windows clipboard to move text from the message to Notepad.

I can actually track the number of messages people have in their mailboxes - but there is no system for alerting you as to when you are nearing your limit.

Failed messages do not "unbounce".

If it's important - use email !

Hi Asy,

I recently posted a PM to Geoff W to say that the calandar doesn't show the Panel Event details though Geoff said he had put them there. But the PM bounced. I can't remember the exact text but it said that the recipient's Mailbox was full and the message couldn't be delivered. The text of your sent message isn't lost so, as Sim suggested, just e-mail the message instead.

I also received what appears to be an auto message from Sim to say that my mailbox is nearly full and that I should delete some messages. I had about 40 messages in my Inbox and about the same in my Sent box. That's about 80 messages total.

Regards, Mike

If the calendar events aren't showing, it's because I don't have access to add them- or because I don't know the correct place to add them. There is a button for me to "Add private events", I didn't quite realise that private probably means private to me, not events which are being held privately.

Thanks for shedding light on the PM's Sim, at least I know now. And hopefully a few other forumites will know.

Hi Geoff,

Yes, you are right "Add Private Events" does mean private to you. For any events you would like put in the calendar, email or PM asy......she is the one that has access to add events to the calendar.

Ruby :)

Nope - not an auto message, just me trying to be helpful

Thanks, Sim. Much appreciated. With hundreds of registered users, surely you're not going to monitor everyone's mailbox and personally remind them to clear it out when it's nearly full? Can it be automated?

Regards, Mike

There is a report that can be run in the admin console which shows which users have the most number of PMs in their mailboxes - so it's easy to occasionally check it and PM someone to remind them to clean it up.

Of course if their mailbox is already full then I can't PM them to tell them ! But you get that.
