HELP - We Need an Accountant in Qld

Help!! My husband and I own a few investment properties on the Northern end of the Gold Coast. We have discovered our present accountant hasn't much experience with IP's. Can anyone out there recommend a really good accountant on Gold Coast (or even Brisbane area would be ok) who specialises in Investment Properties?

Hi Jenny

I am not exactly sure where they are in Qld but Mry & Julia appear to be excellent accountants who are kind enough to share their knowledge and information on this forum. Perhaps if you have a look at their member information you will see a link to emails & web pages.....

You will not find many better.

Hi Jenny, welcome to the forum. Would you mind sharing with the forum what was the trigger that made you realise your accountant wasn't IP savvy.

Or you could go to Melbourne and use Dale, one of the best in the business. I'm in Canberra and use Dale- most stuff now can be done by email- or if I need to travel there, it IS tax deductible.

How long do you allow for a trip to Melb to visit DaleG. I will be going to Melb from Syd after July. Is he close to the City??

Dale is a long way out from the centre of Melbourne. East Kilsyth can be reached by train and taxi- though it would be a lot easier by taxi all the way, or perhaps with hire car.

How long?That would depend on Dale, and what you had to do. If you had nothing else to do in Melbourne, plan at least a day trip. And book well ahead.

I was in NW WA when I started using Dale. Dont let distance worry you. Afterall when you visit him its tax deductable too.

We use Barry Shonhan at "Stevens Shonhan" - 3326 9400. We also have family who use Barry and the team and we have all found him very good to use.

Richard Clarke @ Horwath Brisbane - (07) 3218988. Property owner, investor, developer and a regular speaker for property accountancy for many orginaisations (including the Reno Kings). We've been using him for years and have spoken to many nation wide but he is still No 1.

Some others here have recommended in the past, active financial answers at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. I saw Barb Page about 2 years ago about several matters, one of which involved her analysis of me potentially buying a business. From the several meetings I had with her, I would not recommend her. Her advice was contradicted by two other accountants and several experienced business mentors. In addition, I was billed wrongly, in their favour, though I never challenged it, as it was only around $100 difference.

I know a lot of people on the Sunshine Coast, and have not heard all good about Dymphna Boholt either. Other staff in their office are very inexperienced, and Dymphna no longer takes new clients.

Active Financial Answers

I too have had consultations with Barb Page. Her answers to my situation seemed confused and left me feeling that I needed a second opinion.
The second opinion I did get filled in a lot of blanks she had not addressed. Also I decided to opt with a different structure to what she advised based on my subsequent research.
They are good people, but I have never been back since my initial consultations. Also, value for money was low - their hourly rate is high, and they dont forget to bill you on the way out.
