Speaker: Melanie MacDonald

Topic: Investor Profile –Melanie’s own inspirational IP journey.

Profiled in the Apr/May and Jun/Jul 2003 issues of the Australian Property Investor Magazine Melanie started property investing when she was 21, literally with “No money”.

A quick financial summary of Melanie:
-Started at 21 with a $1,000 overdraft.
-At 26, gross worth about $1 million.
-At 30 net (and gross) worth of $100 (no debts, no assets!)
-At 37 net around $1 million (net, not gross, at last!)

-Close meeting for networking.

Everyone interested in property and the somersoft forum is welcome to come along. (Having an IP is not a pre-requisite, only a motivation to do so.)

Why don't you bring along a friend! (I am sure that we all know someone who can benefit in talking with other like minded people.)

(Remember networking is all about coming along and saying hello. Don’t be afraid to say hello to others there – You never know how it might help your IP journey. ;) )

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Sunstone (Shane).

What is BIG?

“Brisbane’s first choice for investment property networking and information.”

BIG (Brisbane Investing Group) is a not-for-profit group of like minded people who meet monthly to network and share information about property investment.

The guest speakers

The quality of the guest speakers has been excellent over the two evenings I attended. Ian Somers and Peter Comben both gave very informative presentations. I look forward to attending again :)

Dear WaySolid,

Thanks for the kind words. The BIG exec team work hard to try and bring quality speakers to our meetings.

Member feedback is appreciated and helps us to continue to strongly grow. :)

Cheers,

Sunstone.

Hi Brisveganites

Thoroughly enjoyed Ian's talk a while back, but unfortunately missed Peter's talk last month.

Can anyone fill me in on some brief info on what they learnt at his talk? Will try make it to the next one.

Dear Brendon,

Sorry to hear you couldn't make it. No reason you can't be at the June one. ;)

Minutes/notes of a speakers presentation is something we typically do not do. If we get sufficient interstate/international paid members who can't physically be there then it may be something that could be considered.

However a previous post of mine should be able to give you some general info:

A video?

Sunstone,

Perhaps someone could video them with the speakers consent? There seems to a lot of very useful info which is being shared with a small audience only. It would certainly be more useful than the Dolf DeRoos "Real Estate Twists" video I just watched.

Perhaps someone could video them with the speakers consent?

Dear WaySolid,

It is something that the exec have talked about. However some of the issues that came up:

-Will it decrease the quality of the presentation/speaker? If someone was being recorded word for word they may feel reluctant or reticient to give the frank feedback that we are looking for. (It came up before having a valuer present for us.)

-Copyright issues. When a speaker is using their own material recording it may complicate our position or prevent them from presenting.

A decision has previously been made not to record the speakers however your suggestion is certainly welcomed. ;)

Cheers,

Sunstone.
