Top 10 favourite movies.

My top 10 favourite movies of all time. I'm a science fiction fan, so these figure prominantly.

1. 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Stanley Kubrick.
I recently got this on blu-ray, [along with 2010] and it's better than ever. Hard to believe it was released in 1968, before man on the moon.

2. Aliens.
James Cameron.
Not often a sequel is better than the original.

3. Shawshank Redemption.
Box office bomb that came good with video and DVD.

4. Terminator 2.
James Cameron.
Another good sequel.

5. The Terminator.
James Cameron.
Terminator 3 was watchable. Terminator 4 salvation was a joke. A waste of my 2 hours.

6. Crocodile Dundee.
Paul Hogan.
Very funny, but should have stopped at the original.

7. Saving Private Ryan.
Steven Spielberg.
Very gruesome. I hope war was not like this but I suppose it was really.

8. Star Wars.
George Lucas
Way ahead of it's time just like 2001. Special effects that are still great after 33 years. A flim classic.

9. Toy Story.
Pixar.
The start of the high definition animated movies. Knocked me out when I first saw it. Classic.

10. Avatar.
James Cameron.
Also the start of a new period of movie making. Loved it.

See ya's.

My list is more girly;) (not in any particular order)
The colour Purple. (Whoopi being serious)
The Shawshank Redemption. ( Classic)
Finding Nemo. (fav kids flick)
Holes. (have watched this about 20 times)

Hairspray. (music with great lyrics)
The King and I ( Actually and rogers and hammerstein)

Robin Hood, Men In Tights

I'm hardly a movie goer and there are still many on your lists I haven't seen, but I rank Casablanca because it was so sophisticated for it's time and has never aged.

Loved the M*A*S*H movie and another you've missed was Blues Bros. Getting all those musicians together was a hell of a feat.

What about E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial?

Gran Torino
Shrek
Once Were Warriors
Pulp Fiction
The Castle
Shawshank Redemption
The Exorcist
Gallipoli
Million Dollar Baby
Holes

Another great top 10 list....Gran Torino was a great movie too, whoever added that in!

So many to choose from, and they do alter over time, but there are (some) constants, not in order:

1. Kenny-I love, it's kinda whimsical comedy, very cleverly done. One I would be happy to rewatch, and that's not a thing I do often.

2. Relatively newie, Bran Nue Dae: love it for it's lightness, it's sense of silly fun, Australian! the music I adore, the people in it could not have been cast any better...it's just fun.

3. Sampson and Delilah (Oz film): It's just beautiful/sad.

4.There Will Be Blood: To me, an incredibly well made film, violent yes, but a film I wish I could have made, brilliant acting.

5. I have great love for anything science fiction, too many to mention, but Matrix movies a favorite. Science fiction seriously rocks. Haven't seen a bad one yet.

6.The Castle-what more can you say...and it makes me wonder if incredibly funny tv shows that originated on ABC, Kath and Kim and The Librarians were inspired by this all time great movie.

7. Wolf Creek

8. Ten Canoes Incredibly, incredibly beautiful, part shot black and white, "storytelling"...one of my all time-ever favorites.

9. Anything Sean Penn is in, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, I love Maggie's quiet gems of movies.

11. Talking of Maggie, her brother's Brokeback Mountain, quintessential heartbreaking love story, with beautiful scenery and music.

12. Into The Wild-Beautiful and tragic.

13. Pan's Labyrinth A bit gory but clever.

13. Anything the Wiggles are in.

11. Ratatouille

10. Beautiful Kate: Rachel Ward's amazing debut into film (I think), loved the acting. Beautiful photography.

9. No Country for Old Men: Coen bros...and Tommy Lee Jones is a very cool actor.

I have many more....that's just 10 off top of my head.

Mulholland Drive
Apocolypse Now
Platoon
Godfathers 1 & 2
No Country for Old Men (book was even better)
Clockwork Orange
Aliens
Star Wars
Singing in the Rain
Unforgiven
The Searchers
Raging Bull
Schindlers List
Saving Private Ryan
Rocky Horror Picture Show

Have I got to ten yet.... But there are so many more yet to go.....

aliens (2)
independence day
predator
shrek
shawshank redemption
a knights tale
how to train a dragon
the matrix
star trek (current movie)
the mummy

not very girly ... i did like "the devil wears prada" but not enough to get emotional about it. watched "kung fu panda" for the first time the other night and laugh myself silly all the way thru.
