Telstra is going to market....will you buy their shares?

Some valid points Acey, but as you say Telstra is still very dominant and profitable today. Telcos can only dream of being in such a position. Also I think they can still downsive their workforce another 10-15% within the next few years. I aint buying yet, but I'm watching closely.

    IP in Campbelltown?

My family have been investing in Campbelltown since the early 70's. I remember when Ambarvale & Rosemeadow were dairy farms, as a kid it was fun to go and see the cows get milked (yihaa!) StHelens pk was bush. There is a difference between an "emotional" assesment, an "investment" assesment and...

    What a recession actually means

You don't have have grey hair to remember a recession. A recession is the opposite of a Boom. In a boom, most have money to invest and support lifestyle. In a recession, most are borrowed to their limits, few can afford to buy more, demand collapses, investment prices fall, living expenses...

    splitting land

I would more likely pay for a consultation with a surveyor first. I dont have fond memories of many council staff. I'd ask around (developers) "who's the best surveyor in town" and pay them to evaluate your choices.

Telstra is going to market....will you buy their shares?

I think Telstra has a great asset base that is being grossly undervalued. Yes this will likely have a negative effect on the shares, but it's still a strong company. ps I have never bought Telstra shares (yet)

    Are poor people evil?

My opinion of RK has always been that he'll say/print anything for a feel good effect on his audience to make money. Unlike many of you I don't see the fuss about his books either. (being what this thread started about) I don't believe for a second that you can judge a person by their bank...

Providing a good start for a new child

It's normal that parents want the best for their children and make it easier for them, but you can do too much. Every day I see examples of people whom their parents have done too much for. even from parents that are'nt all that wealthy, but the end result is the same. On the other hand the...

    is inflation good for property?

My recollections are that inflation brings higher interest rates, which brings more inflation, which then brings higher interest rates which eventually leads to a recession and or market crash. Sorry to bring such good news

Houses falling down on high-risk mortgages

Don't forget that they are relentlessly being told: "Now is the time to buy" "The quicker you buy, the more you gain" "RE never goes down" "You can't loose in RE" "You can go wrong with RE" "Anyone can make mils in RE" "Leapfog your way to mils" "Time in the market, not timing the...

    Is silence golden ?

Skater (and others) I think it goes both ways, they see us as "tall poppies" and we see them as losers. We're greedy, they're lazy etc etc

Suburb for Sale - TV program on tonight 8.30

I lived in that area for ~ 15 yrs. I think twice in that time there was problems with Reiby Juvenile DC, but none that I remember having serious repercussions. There are many good people in Airds, some are motivated and some are not. Just because they don't have ambitions to own 20 IP's...

    Is silence golden ?

Wow some of those replies are an eye opener. My family memories are about real estate, business, banks, building & renovating. My parents did'nt have all that much, but they were always looking at the long term. Interest rates, banks, business, oil crisis (it was the 70's) politics was...

Suburb for Sale - TV program on tonight 8.30

She's doing what she has been trained to do. As for the show, it may have been entertaining, but it only scratched the surface of what Airds is about, and was very biased towards the producers opinions. They had never been to Airds before the show, and after a few days of filming, are regarded...
