Dream to be Comfortable not Rich. Start Now!

I don't understand why you say you are not rich. Anyone with net worth of 5 mil or above is in the top one percent in Australia. It sounds like that just your house alone puts you in that category. With the rich list - do you mean the BRW 200 list or the Forbes 200?

With the current selloff, it may be time for my first batch of VAS soon.

You "Only" Need $1m to retire comfortably.

Same age, same goal. But my $3m will be a mixture of cash and shareholdings to generate pre-tax $100-120k pre-tax. I am almost at this level of holdings, despite my share portfolio down 100k at close of market today. Unfortunately, I have recently decided that I would like a higher value PPOR so...

You "Only" Need $1m to retire comfortably.

WOW and BHP are my two main holdings acquired in the past year. Despite the substantial paper loss, I am thankful that they have paid out a reasonable dividend and feel that I am on track towards a passive income of 100k for retirement purposes, without any major effort incurred. Essentially, if...

You "Only" Need $1m to retire comfortably.

Agreed. I spent 950k on a portfolio of shares, just two shares, which is now worth about 800k. However, in the past twelve months, the dividend payout was about 40k net, not including franking credits. So this beats the age pension and the same unleveraged 950k spent on two residential...

    State election

I am not concerned with either but the State election has been kind to me. Sportsbet has already paid out to all punters who betted on Liberal win. My best investment to date. 7% tax free yield in 11 days on capital invested. Sorry, had to share this excitement somewhere.

Share your story if retired before 53 in Australia

With gearing of 30% and portfolio of 13m, does that mean your net worth is about 8-9 mil? Me I am trying to generate 100k pa pre tax with a planned net worth of 5mil.

if you have $1mil, how would you invest your money wisely?

If I did not own a house to live in, I would borrow some more to buy a nice place on the North Shore or Eastern suburbs to live.

Share your story if retired before 53 in Australia

Why did you choose 53, as opposed to 43 or 33?

    High Yielding Shares Again

Despite BHP languishing I think you are right. I had always thought a bet on BHP was a bet on the ASX.

    High Yielding Shares Again

The pain has already been pretty intense. The two stock portfolio (BHP, WOW) is currently down 17% when a few weeks ago, it reached an all time high since portfolio inception of 4% down. But thanks for concern.

    High Yielding Shares Again

Great perspective thank you. I think in hindsight I would preferred to have sold out and taken a small loss with WOW because now I am behind the ape ball once again.
