YIKES! Keep an eye on CAIRNS!!

Comment anyone? State government is introducing lock out laws and the town seems to think this is bad policy economically where I thought it was a good thing. If you buy CBD apartment you really need to be away from some parts of town and also up high to avoid noise. Crime is very high in...

    Cairns, House and land.

There are plenty of those but they are not included in population. We use ABS information in Cairns and understand it is not that accurate due to small sample size but the trend is what we try to keep an eye on. Population includes children so best to use participation rate from ABS. So the...

The workforce participation rate is low at about 60%. This is possibly a new normal and could be an issue down the road...everywhere. In the US workforce participation rate is down to about 62% from a peak of 67% but they forecast it to be around 59% to 60% long term. We are becoming too...

    Cairns, House and land.

I forgot there is something happening and that is the start of direct flights from Singapore. I think they will try to sell off the plan to investors in Singapore. I really do not know if this will be a good or a bad thing. There is only one flight in per week to start and two out. People that...

    Cairns, House and land.

Some good advice. The problem cold be over supply. They have approved Mt Peter massive housing development for 50,000 people. Old drive in site at Woree has been about to start for years. In the CBD there has been approval for 12 towers. So the scarcity angle is one to be informed about. However...

Looking for help. Cairns locals chime in

Julatten is a great idea if you can find a property within your price range. It has the best climate apparently. South Cairns would have more larger blocks, be closer to work areas but not the beach so much. You say you want to be 1/2 hour from work, I would get the job first as finding work...

    Where to buy next?

Cairns is a low income city. It is not an upmarket suburb but we stay at Trinity links and love it. I think it suffers more from the gossip than from facts. The atlas id conform it is not the poorest nor the richest.

    Where to buy next?

Not that bad and crime is quite low, possibly lower than Mt Sheridan and well below Edmonton. A little public housing but not that much. I think the reputation is gossip more than reality though not a razzy dazzy suburb does have some nice areas, does have good value and high returns and is...

    Regret and Hindsight

Sadly not my first mistake. I sold an apartment in North Sydney way back when for $70,000 and thought I was the bees knees. So told myself not to sell anymore but in Cairns that may have been mistake again. lol

    Where to for Tony ?

They are centrist these days and deserve more support. Progressive society are always more sought after and valuable.

    Regret and Hindsight

Same here but worse. Cairns. Worse again I sold Sydney to Buy Cairns. So know others out there feeling more stupid and with more regret :) The trigger for me was my property in Sydney needed urgent work for the next tenants and I could not afford it. I should have refinanced the house to access...

The politician in Cairns is very well presented when you first meet him. Very self assured, seems to know a lot and talks the talk it seems. But soon you find he just says what sounds good. He was in the media nearly everyday with AQUIS saying he would cut red tape, the construction would start...
