    Safe as houses?

Most definitely. In the short term though as a single person I think the structure of the purchase is wise to investigate for personal protection. This has been really educational to read about which is the main thing.

    Safe as houses?

True and I like that idea. I just don't want other people getting in the way of me investing with my own money in future and I was sure that, as usual there was more than one way of doing this. It's really good to read people's perspective on it before I purchase again, so thanks.

    Safe as houses?

Thanks all. So does seeing through trusts enable the family court to award the other party entitlement to the assets in some way? What if the other members of the trust disagree with that? Is pre nup the only other option? Cheers

    Safe as houses?

Is there a way to buy property if you are single so that it can't be sued for either personally or through divorce later on down the track? Is this what companies and trusts are used for? Thanks for your thoughts..

    Newman, WA

I would look further into the BHP aspect since they pretty much own this town and find out what they look for to rent out to their contractors. I would stay away from 'East Timor' and go for 'Newman Heights' instead - better quality tenants ie. closer to Radio Hill and quieter, closer to...

No relief for first-time buyers as house prices to keep rising

"Even Turnbull or whatever his spelling is, said the stimulus would force up prices , possibly ignite another boom and re'throw everything out of whack. I know many will disagree with me but that's exactly what it's done if you ask me ." I agree with this statement. I'm a single first...

Which book for an 11 year old?

Thanks for the suggestions! She has no idea about money but has kicked butt @ Monopoly since she was 6. If I can add to her imagination by encouraging her to think about how cash works, I think she'll work smarter instead of harder as she grows up. I looked up cashflow for kids and it seems to...

Which book for an 11 year old?

Hi, I want to get my niece a book (or something) which will teach her about the concept of money in a fun way. I'm thinking Rich Dad Poor Dad but would appreciate anyone's opinion because I don't have kids and others may have better ideas. Her mum has put me in charge of educating her...

Changes to R20 code in Perth: real cost of subdivision & building?

Hi silversands, the neighbours knocked over their old place and built a brick garage that is now the fence boundary so unfortunately this wont be possible. A friend suggested that I may be able to build a new wall internally to the side of the house, then knock out the existing side wall to...

Changes to R20 code in Perth: real cost of subdivision & building?

Thanks for that info Boods, yes I was referring to the basic furnishings of the house that you stated. Apparently her driveway is about 20cm short (in width from the side of her house to the neighbour's fence) for what the council by laws permit for a duplex to be built at the back. Due to this...

Changes to R20 code in Perth: real cost of subdivision & building?

Hi all, The changes to the R20 subdivision within a 10km radius of Perth (that come into effect April 2009) directly affects my mum's place. She is on 948 sqm and the house is really old. She is close to retirement and has always counted on being able to subdivide her land down the track and...

    Lower Income investing

I recently split up with my husband and we have 1 IP. We are going to keep it and become business partners instead. When I graduate from Uni this year, I will be starting out on 40k, however, I'm not going to let that deter me from investing in IPs. He will take care of the first IP loan and I...

    Bunbury, WA

Bought in Shoalwater 7 months ago, old house on a big block overlooking a park. The returns are definately crap for us: PP 390k Rent 200/week Just had a rent review and putting it up to 205/week. You can still pick up these kinds of places for that kind of price. I think it will do...
