Goal is to live off rent in the future how?

Zos, before you pay the $200K into your loan, if you haven't already, check your borrowing capacity. It would be awful to pay the money into your loan and not be able to access it. If you have a redraw on your loan that may help too. Regards Jason.

    Achieving wealth through shares...how?

Great to hear an update, dajackal. You've been really busy! Did you buy any shares back in 2012 when you posted the thread? You would have seen some great gains if you did. (No doubt your Sydney IP's have done really well too!) Regards Jason.

    When is enough?

I find that amazing that less than 1% of Australians retire with an income of 50k. How many retire with more (eg 100K)? I'd be interested in reading the source for the info Fab. Are you able to post it here?

    Lower Income investing

A little off topic, but somewhat related. There has been a shift in expectations over the past couple of decades in relation to the standard of living. You can see this attitude being expressed by people wanting to buy their first home in inner suburbs and not being willing to start with...

Using a buy & hold strategy, in how many years did you reach financial independence?

Hi Rixter, Thanks for clarifying the reason for you deciding to LOE. I also asked whether you'd worked out whether it would be feasible for you to divest your properties and invest the proceeds in shares/index funds and live off dividends. My concern with LOE is tighter lending...

Using a buy & hold strategy, in how many years did you reach financial independence?

Rixter, Have you ever worked out the income your investments would give you from LOR? ie selling some and living off the proceeds of the remaining properties (or even investing in shares) rather than LOE? Would this still give you financial freedom, or do you need to rely on LOE to achieve...
