    Clayton South?

Springs Rd would still only be 10-15mins from Monash Uni by bus, is it not? Surely students don't mind living that "far", do they? Or do they all aim for walking distance?

    Clayton South?

Nah, definitely staying clear of power lines. No vacancies - that's good to hear. So is the demand from well-behaved couples/families the same as demand from students?

    Clayton South?

I'm thinking of buying an IP on Springs Rd in Clayton South. It's a 3br unit. What do people think? Good idea? bad idea? I'm looking to rent it out to Monash U students, but a couple, small family would probably be better (they won't ruin it as much). What kind of rent can I expect in that...

What do you think of Berwick?

Could you elaborate? Where is it better to buy? Why? I was thinking of buying in Berwick. Getting a decent house for ~$350-$450k. But now I've shifted focus on getting a unit closer to the city for a similar amount, or a house on the OTHER side (around Albion). Good idea? Bad idea?

Finance newbie seeking help on FHO

Due to some other matters, I haven't been looking for property in the last 2 months, but am back into it now - just have to get back to some of the threads here. I'm not putting that much emphasis on the FHOG bonuses any more. I've decided to buy an existing home because I won't have to put...

OK, that makes sense. Thanks for the clear-up. Yeah, I'll have to go for it. Hopefully I can find something soon. I agree. The $35k was really an upper limit. But I'm not going to spend $10k or less, because I want something reliable and relatively new.

Turning a home into a property investment property

Lynn, Yeah, I think I understand what you're trying to say. We were talking about completely different things, but now I better understand both. Regarding the 'extra repayments' - I was just talking about making repayments in an IP from my job income even if the rent income covers the...

So I heard on the news that the FHOG bonus will be extended for another year, is that right? If that's the case, I don't have to rush anymore.

Finance newbie seeking help on FHO

Hello all. After hearing about the potential end of the $14k FHOG bonus, I might be oneo f those "crazies" (I've read some threads on here) rushing out to buy a property to take advantage of this free $$$ whilst it's still available. I'm a complete newbie on property and financial matters. I can...

Turning a home into a property investment property

Hi LynnH, I'm a complete newbie on financial and property matters. This is my first post, actually- just joined because I want to get into IP very soon. Anyway, could you elaborate on 'personal expenditure'? Does that include making personal repayments on the mortgage of that IP? ie...
