land vs purchase price I've been following this thread with interest. Dumb question, so in the ideal world (which never is but just for my understanding) The higher the land:buy price ratio, the better the deal is or vice versa ?

Problem is with Victoria, there is privacy legislation which makes the information less accessible and you have to pay the individual councils on a regular basis to access it. So much for freedom of information... The councils would earn a decent amount from this so there is no push for change...

Looking at your suburbs, most are to the northwest of Melbourne CBD other than southbank which is just a stone's throw south of the CBD and doveton a long way south. Did you mention all these suburbs because his work requires him to travel a lot? you probably have to get past the landlords...

+1 with Aaron on this. The number to look at is return on equity(other ppls money) not assets... not sure if the accounting still groups active loans as assets and that would make the ROA percentage lower.

Thanks guys for that. For some reason, I'm skeptical that banks here don't take part in that sort of practice in some shape or form. Most didnt know what the US banks were doing till the dust cleared.... On another note, thats exactly why plenty of Australians are up in arms with the banks...
