    Richmond VIC 1BR vs 2BR

IMO i would go for an older apartment in a smaller block, with the benefits of buying an older apartment compared to off the plan being: - you can increase the value of it by renovations and add your own style - less number of units = more unique and often more sought after by renters -...

Buying first property - Melbourne inner west

The unit in maidstone went for $407,000. The agent's initial estimate of $300,000- $330,000 was a touch short  So this agent did what he usually does with his properties and covers his *** by increasing the estimate a week before auction ( $300,000 - $350,000 wasn't that close either)...

Buying first property - Melbourne inner west

Agree with not buying on Rupert or Cross Street. Carmichael Street isn't a bad option as it dosn't face the train lines and there is a big development only a few hundred meters away, burbank i think?? North of Barkly St is more ideal in W. Footscray, but Carmichael isn't a bad street..

Buying first property - Melbourne inner west

I didn't mention Maidstone or Maribynong in my previous post. Both of these areas will boom i think, as i read in the paper recently highpoint shopping centre is going to expand significantly (new DJ and boutuque stores). Maribynong has already grown hugely in past 5 years but i think Maidstone...

Buying first property - Melbourne inner west

I think its horses for courses, if you can afford a house then go for it, but i think units are great value in the area, and owners corporation is not always expensive. Also many potential renters don't want the hassle of a front and backyard, so units are an ideal option for many people.

Buying first property - Melbourne inner west

I have recently bought my first IP in inner west and believe it is best value for money close to city. You should do your research in each suburb, here is a short summary of each suburb in terms of units IMHO. Footscray: Horse has bolted in terms of value. Can still get some good buys in...

Bought first IP thanks for all your help

Bought private. Between the 2 i guess i just did the simple thing and thought which would i prefer if i was going to live in there, and it was a simple choice in the end. It's a 15 minute walk to the train station which i don't think is too bad, obviously not ideally close but i don't think you...

Bought first IP thanks for all your help

Bought if for around $245,000. Planning to live in it for first 6 months to get the FHOG then plan to rent it out. Looking at the rental market id say i can probably get around $225 per week for it.

    Kingsville (VIC) next to Footscray

I have recently been looking in the area for an IP, i went to uni at VU in footscray (4 years :S) and have spent many days and nights in the area so i know the western suburbs quite well now. I much prefer Kingsville to Footscray, even though it has no train station or many shops, it has a much...

    Offset account for home loan

So just deciding which home loan option is best. I understand with an offset account you are able to pay off the principle sooner as you are paying interest on the balance in your account. For a first IP have people on here tended to go for a offset account with a higher interest rate? Thanks in...

    Units with no gas connection

Is it common for oldish units (70s) to only have electrical appliances and no gas connection? As long as there is heating, and an electrical oven, is there any huge disadvantages to this
