    Our Night Of Terror

I'm wondering whether a handful of sand to the eyes followed by pounding with a blunt instrument may be a handy mixture. I sometimes wonder about the effect of a baseball bat or golf club in the confined spaces of a house. A small quantity of sand could be kept in a zip-lock bag in a drawer...

    Control freaks

Have you tried ignoring her constant requests for information? Alternately you could choose to reply only intermittently (i.e. twice a day or only every third enquiry). Is there any reason why you need to respond immediately to every one of her interventions? After all there is no power...

Ways to deter certain "types" of Tenants

Just a thought: what about checking their Facebook page, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. to see if there is any evidence relating to their general behaviour or mistreatment of previous rentals. I'm not sure about the ethics of this but I believe prospective employers are quite comfortable with using...

    Improperly decommissioned septic tank

I'm on the Council of Owners for a complex in Scarborough WA. We had to decommision a large septic tank when it was connected to mains sewage. We were told it was permissible to leave the tanks in place and simply fill them in with sand. That is what we did and all is now sweet.

    Redbank plains Queensland

Hi Esh. I have an IP in Redbank plains but don't know how much help I can be as I live in WA and don't get over that way too often. However, I can tell you that Redbank Plains is about 10Km (I believe) from Ipswich and roughly 30Km from the CBD. Thankfully my property was also unaffected by...

Property prices are going nowhere, RBA paper explains why

This may seem a bit left field, but what about the inheritance effect. An article that I read sometime ago outlined the fact that there are billions of dollars locked up in the estates of our senior citizens. This wealth will be released into the hands of their children and grandchildren as...

SW Brisbane, Ripley and Springfield Lakes

Hi FutureInvestor. I hope that you are right. I'm in WA but bought nearby in Redbank Plains when values in the area were climbing at around 20% pa, just before the GFC hit. I have seen values flatline ever since. My rental return improved marginally in the ensuing 3 years but has now been...

Urgent - Strata Sinking & Admin Fund balances too low?

If you do go ahead, I'd be looking to get onto the Council of Owners to establish some control over the direction being taken by the current owners / strata managers. It may turn out that you have to work to the give strata managers the flick and get a new outfit to look after your concerns.

Want to invest in the stockmarket

A little investment of your time and energy first may be a far better investment in the long run than putting your hard earned money up front. I'd encourage you to get a thorough education from active share market investors first, before plunging into the market (or managed funds for that...

how do you renovate from interstate?

How to renovate interstate Hi Jonesy427, I was born with ten thumbs and zero know-how. I must have been deluded at the time because I bought a place from a deceased estate, located on the other side of the city from where I live, which was in a very poor state of repair. For some...

Is it possible to keep a bathroom mould free?

As well as the above we have used a product called 'Damp Rid' which we purchased from a Bunnings Hardware store in WA. It comes in a small plant pot sized container which we place in a corner. It is a white granulated product which absorbs moisture from the air. Since we began using this...
