    Melbourne February 2009 Meeting

Another first timer intending to make an appearance. So many times I nearly made it, looks like this time it will happen. Be gentle with me!

How do you change your name?

I changed the order of my given names, was easy enough, but there was a "gotcha" with my passport. It seemed like a good idea at the time... wait till my passport expired, and renew it with the new name ... wrong If you want to renew passport in same name, no problem, post office with...

    Two loan applicants,one owner/investor - Tax treatment

Might be worth checking with the bank too, I think they like names on the title to match the names on the loan, if the property is being used as security for the loan.

    Am I missing something

Following on from crc_error's suggestion to go with 100% finance and copping the LMI I decided to go that way, as PPOR was in joint names, but IP was only going to be in my name ( wifes income not sufficient to benefit from tax deductions ). Would have had to have deposit loan in joint...

linkage between share market and real estate

I don't have figures to back it up, but my hunch is that share market booms/busts don't affect the price of "entry level" housing much, but have a big affect on "up market" properties.

    Converting PPOR to joint names

I suspect it is possible for a ppor owner to sell the property without the consent or knowledge of their spouse. If the seller then leaves the country with the loot, or loses it at the casino prior to declaring bankrupcy, the spouse will have trouble getting a fair deal in case of divorce...

    Bendigo vs Horsham vs Corio

Bendigo is my pick, reasoning follows When I come to retire in 10-15 years time, and want to move away from Melbourne, thats the only one of the 3 that I would consider living in. Horsham is a bit too remote, Corio is a bit too industrial. My plans wont affect prices, but I suspect...

Where to buy/rent close to La Trobe University?

I'm guessing you are referring to Latrobe's Bundoora campus. I'd suggest keeping away from Heidelberg West (see previous threads). My vote is for Ivanhoe, Macleod, Heidelberg.
