Life change - Single income vs Split Income

So i would be silly to not adjust to the system then... and leave the high paying job. Earn similar amount self employed combined family income (and wife becomes an equal worker in the business)...

Life change - Single income vs Split Income

Child care costs arent a concern here. My point was the difference in tax treatment for the same family combined income, seems better off with "split" income family rather than one earner and one stay at home. Doesnt seem fair.

Life change - Single income vs Split Income

I was just plugging some numbers into ato calculators. It would seem that a split income family is much better off in terms of nett income. Family 1 Partner 1 - $120000 base Tax=$32167 Nett=$87833 Partner 2 - Stay at home (2kids) Family 2 Partner 1 - $60000 base Tax=$11000 Nett...

has anyone actually succeeded in getting rid of possums?

I regularly prune any tree branches (including neighbours) that are within 1.5-2 metres of the roof (double story house though), and a bit more if they are taller than the house. Seems to work well enough that they dont annoy us anymore. There are probably enough other roofs that are easier to...

    Carspace issue

How did they slip or what caused them to slip? They would need to prove something was at fault.....i.e did your car drop oil and they slipped on it... Seems a bit strange they would try to sue you rather than the body corporate, a disgruntled neighbour? Also surely an "open" carspace...

    Electrical Work in the Backyard

Does this mean every job performed by an electrician is entered into some database?

    Electrical Work in the Backyard

It is definitely not legal.... But its going to be difficult to prove either way, unless there is some obviously incompetent installation. As it could have been there when the house was purchased from previous owner or you dont have receipts for work going back years etc... Backyard feed should...

Off the Plan in South Yarra

No I don't believe there will be any gain in two years. You could be the person buying it in 2 years at a slight discount. I might be wrong ;)

    Off the Plan

Or lose money if the market prices drop. If valuations drop you might have to put more cash in to get the finance approved come final settlement time.

    Confidence in Australian Housing Market

Beebop, you are basically implying that all the investors here are close minded as they cannot see your views on the future. Well the overall impression i get from these forums are that most are way more open minded than you are. They listen, research, research again and make their decisions...

Taxing and Duties on property transactions?

Should the governent do away with excessive taxes and duties on property transactions and new developments? And instead charge a smaller tax across the board on all properties? It seems counter intuitive the way that most taxes are pushed to new developments or transactions. If there is a...

Silly Decision Three Years Ago. Cut Losses?

If you see the potential for capital growth in the future and you would like to live in this particular place down the track. Then refinance with someone else after the fixed period is up. Plenty will do 95% LVR, and depending on valuation you might not have to add any extra money, otherwise...

    Questions regarding rental property

If the rent is being payed in cash then there is technically no way to track that transaction. It doesnt matter whether there is a loan or not, but then you cant claim any expenses as this isnt an income producing investment. Interest on loan, maintenance, rates, water, strata. What if...

    Cannot find Tenant Insurance

No joke, and who said there isnt concern?? We are talking about insurance and whether it would be worth it or even covered at all. If it did happen, which is very unlikely, it is very likely normal tenant insurance wouldn't even cover it (versus landlord insurance). And in the bigger picture...

    Cannot find Tenant Insurance

Hmm the damaged caused to landlord property is probably way way less than the tank/equipment/corals//fish to replace if something happened don't worry about it. Wood floors would be fine after they dried out, assuming once off accident not a regular occurence. A reef tank of that size is $5000...
