3 and 5 year fixed rate thread

I agree Rolf. Anyway, didn't mean to derail the thread. Anyone had any luck getting those from the big 4 matching or coming close to this deal from ME? Or matching some of the other benefits? I particularly like the no cost for rate locking with ME.

3 and 5 year fixed rate thread

That makes a lot of sense...especially when I just looked at my 12mth super statement where I had growth of 1.5%...dunno if that is a terribly managed union super fund or if the private sector super funds are doing just as poorly (diversified plan). Though those in the 2 most cautious plans...

    3 & 5 year fixed rates thread

Except 17.5% can't happen again. In fact the more price inflation we have in houses and the more housing increases as a percentage of income the less fluctuation we can have. Peoples 17.5% interest rates hurt no more than the interest rates at 8.5-9.5% before the GFC, the houses were...

Does CBA have a real offset account yet? : / (For variable portion of split loan obviously). Edit: Nope...that's really quite pathetic, I guess they don't see a need or something.

    3 & 5 year fixed rates thread

This is poorly thought out. If the 3yr rate gives you a saving or you think rates will move up then it is not a poor strategy to fix for that long, hell I would fix for 10 years at 6% if I could, who cares if the rates go to 5%, so I would be paying a little bit more than I could have been...

    3 & 5 year fixed rates thread

Mine is similar, I went in on the 28th of Feb, I knew what I wanted, they just stuffed around for a week and a half so I missed the rate lock. I'm already incredibly unhappy with ANZ from when I originally got the loan as the lost my paperwork multiple times, and I ended up wasting over 1 weeks...

Can you see banks raising interest rates?

I find it quite odd the way re-financing with them works. I bought my house just under 2 years ago and want to change my loan from PI to IO and fix it, my parents are guarantor on the loan (owe $250k, bought the house off the plan for $275k) and they had their house valued for 400k when I got...

    3 & 5 year fixed rates thread

Oh that's pretty shitty that they didn't tell me that, I sure hope it's extended, then again I couldn't have really lodged it today and it is really my fault for assuming that it would go for at least a month from announcement.

Urgh...the 3 year fixed was what I went and saw them about today and they didn't mention it was ending? Where did this info come from?

Commbank knockback on guarantor loan, next steps?

Hmm, I think you guys may have missed something, I wasn't saying that I would apply for a second one. I was saying that I can simply increase my borrowing by cancelling my current card, and then after getting approved say "Oh and I want my platinum card back as I have the breakfree package"...

Commbank knockback on guarantor loan, next steps?

If you talk to one of the brokers I would assume they would ask you about this in detail, but I imagine this part doesn't look very good? You say it has been hovering around the $9000 for about 3 months, was it higher before or lower? And why hasn't it been increasing over the last 3...

    The rich are leaving America

Basically all income tax pays for our welfare payments (or entitlements if you prefer), we then have business taxes etc to pay for government etc. The vast majority of that is actually Family Benefits Tax A/B not what you would think normal welfare would be. If they cut out all the middle...

Can you see banks raising interest rates?

This is the issue I have with people trying to apply usual business accounting to banks to decide if they are being unfair. Banks really shouldn't be compared to other businesses because no other business gets to do what they do, and other businesses are risking their own money not...

    carbon tax thread

Yeah, I was just explaining why I deleted my posts, not having a go at anyone for coming in here and having a discussion/argument...I do it plenty, I just don't want to do it here (me personally).

    carbon tax thread

I have deleted my posts, I came to these forums for RE advice not to get into political discussions which don't tend to have a very nice tone or bring the best out in people on the internet (and people rarely change their opinion over the net anyway). But I do have to say a couple of things...

How do you tell your kids the truth and when?

I remember as a very very young child...kindergarten age I told my mum I didn't believe in Santa, it didn't make any sense etc, she just said "Well, if you don't believe in him he won't come" ....so I left it at that....I'm pretty sure she didn't want me to spoil it for my older brother and...

He's gone too Ruddy far this time

You can disagree all you like, you are still wrong, and he is still right. Minerals are owned by the Crown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_mining_law We can charge whatever we want for our minerals, if companies don't like it they can go elsewhere, which is what they are...

Poll: What's your annual household income from your day job only?

Well, with quite a bit of experience it can be extremely lucrative in the mining sector? What type of engineering do you do? My brother is an environmental engineer, I think I would find civil engineering the most rewarding.

Poll: What's your annual household income from your day job only?

Are you working full time? You are in Canada yes? so about 1.5x min wage? I'm about the same, around 51k with bonuses, going for a career change atm, probably take a small pay cut as it will be through a temp agency, but a lot more free time for myself and much faster pay rises (esp if get...
