    Paying off the mortgage

So the bank allows you to leave that loan sitting there without ever servicing it for 30 years, therefore paying no interest? Please, calculate how much interest you would pay over that 30 years before saying how wonderful it is to only have a 40k debt. I'm with pa1nter: If it was a...

    Painting question

Hey pa1nter, no offence taken. I probably should have pointed out I was in the trade for a number of years in my original post to dispell any impression I was an amatuer. Certainly not attacking you as a painter, only putting forward my opinion. Yes, all is forgiven :p

    Painting question

Ok, lets have another look at the original post: So are we only talking about ceilings? Yes, I agree there is no need to sand new ceilings. hmm lets see, yeah about 15 years of it and yes I did an apprenticeship so please don't think I am some brush hand who thinks he knows a thing or two...

Thoughts on the market in central gold coast

Maybe you're right, like the old suburb of Stephens (now Varisty Lakes) which also used to have a lot of commission housing. I'm sure the name change and incorporation with a nicer area has done it wonders.

    Painting question

So if you are rolling you just go over whatever is sitting on the gyprock like dust, dirt, mortar from tilers, dog hair...... I'm sorry pa1nter, but I think you should always dust down regardless of whether you are rolling, spraying or brushing. It also needs to be pole sanded after rolling...

FHOG ends soon right? Then what on earth...

I think they are referring to the Victorian state based grant, which I think is 2k atm, and will be scrapped for existing properties as of the 1 July as per the recent state budget. The federal grant still stands (7k) for existing properties and the state based grant for new homes has been...

    Is Melbourne cooling?

I've notice just in the last week that a number of places have dropped in price range. Will have to wait a few more weeks to see the actual sale price, but for example: House which was listed at 430 - 470 has now be reset to 410-450 Another one which was at 460-480 is now back to 420-460...

Thoughts on the market in central gold coast

Only one that stands out is Molendinar, which has a lot of industial areas and from memory some commission housing. But then there are parts of Southport which could fall under the same description.

    Painting question

Rockstar, yes it needs to be dusted down otherwise it will peel from the dusty spots. Also if it had enough water added the first time then it would have penetrated better than just spraying it straight on. And if it is still holding now then I don't see why you can't just sand the bjesus out...

    Painting question

Sorry Bear, but no they don't. Have you ever tried to put only 1 coat over new plasterboard? You have to put at least 2, sprayer or no sprayer. Difference being most AV Jennings homes don't get any sealer, just 2 finish coats. Which is why it only looks ok for a while. AndrewT: Using an...

    Mortgage stress article...

Bluestorm, I also noticed all the people they spoke to bought with no deposit of their own, instead using the FHG to use as a deposit. Shouldn't the lenders also have some responsibility when assesing these people? Lender: Hmm, you are middle aged, have no savings and 7 foster kids, sure...

Why Is 30%+ Of Household Income Considered Mortgage Stess

Fujitsu have now changed that measure as they obviously realise it isn't exactly accurate. From their website Not sure what measures they use for their "Mortgage Stress-O-Meter" which is what they use now but would be interesting to know. For a couple with an average mortgage who also...

    Vics - new $26k FHBG - regional

Here's one from the age: http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/first-home-buyers-bonus-slashed-20100504-u6c4.html I love this line from the RIEV: The state government’s decision to slash the $2000 first-home bonus for existing dwellings is a disappointment, the Real Estate Institute of Victoria...

    I could live there!

So are you saying that from 89 - 96 your salary didn't change? I find that very hard to believe, unless you have terrible negotiating skills. With 7 years experience as an accountant I'd imagine in 96 that $146k house wasn't so expensive after all
