When I walked in I thought "that's right, this is the place that had the cr@p music. I remember when I had not long been 18 and my mates and I went out for a night in Byron and the bouncer at Cheekys almost didn't let us in because 2 of us were from Lismore, 1 from Casino and 1 from Kyogle...

Well, it seems I have been to the Woolshed before. It was so remarkable I didn't remember it the first time.... Made sure no food touched the tables :P Sounds like an old nightclub in Byron Bay called Cheeky Monkey;s where it was normal to dance on the checkerplate tables.

ANZ staff lend 90pc no lmi?

I can only speak for one banks systems but it depended on the program used and what was done as to whether it was logged or not. They tell you everything is logged and audited which it is (mostly) but nothing alerted or actioned upon unless the proverbial hit the fan for whatever reason and...

Bad bad bad Journalism! Young Property Gun

I thought this was a fairly balanced article for a change. Her situation once finished school doesn't appear to be out of the ordinary for a typical school leaver - it's just what she chose to do with the opportunities that set her out from the rest which would be available to a good portion...

ANZ staff lend 90pc no lmi?

What's in the rule book and what happens in real life are a bit different.... I didn't bank at the bank I worked at for that reason. Other than someone's moral code and adherence to rules there's nothing stopping them from looking at your customer profile.

ANZ staff lend 90pc no lmi?

When I worked for a bank (not ANZ) the staff rate with LMI waiver wasn't quite as good as the 'normal' customer package rate but there were other benefits that helped offset that. Just need to make sure you don't go past the tipping point where you'll be paying more for the waiver in the long...

Is there a way for landlords to join forces and boycott kmart?

I found when I was living in student accom the best way to get the temp right in my room was to have both the space heater and air con running at the same time. Found the best balance was to have air con on 16 degrees and radiant heater on 4/5 setting. I'd have these on all the time as it...

Whats the highest % of income you accepted ?

My biggest risk tenant wise which turned out to be my best tenant was a single mother of 2 whose rent was ~60% of her centrelink payments. She was not employed otherwise and apparently not receiving child support either. She stayed for approx 3 years and did not miss one single payment...

YIKES! Keep an eye on CAIRNS!!

Thought I would add my post to the H&L thread here as well as this seems to be more the general Cairns chat area. Recently I've been to a few events that have had talks from valuers, economists, local experts etc and thought I would share what I have picked up from the presentations...

Recently I've been to a few events that have had talks from valuers, economists, local experts etc and thought I would share what I have picked up from the presentations. First thing being the composition of the economy and the perception that it's heavily reliant on tourism. The Gross...

Possible to replace just a kitchen bench?

Why not wait to do the upgrade until you move in? There's a high chance that the new benchtop will be damaged in the meantime.

Possible to replace just a kitchen bench?

IP or PPOR? If it ain't broke.... Looking at the pic the I would only potentially replace the benchtop and the cooktop

Uh oh! Function starts at 6pm and officially ends at 8pm and I plan on being well and truly tucked into bed at 2am so looks like I'll miss out on the fun! Ha! Noted - I won't accidentally leave weddings rings (or husband) at home :D I have only been 'out' in Cairns once before and that was...

You have me intrigued now! What's wrong with the Woolshed? I have never been before but there's a function there next Friday night that I am attending. Should I be worried? :D

Enjoy Matthew - though we could have put on some better weather for you! Wet season-esque rain at the moment. Yes, Iron Man is happening this weekend. Main impact / road closures will be on Sunday with some of the Captain Cook hwy impacted but not too bad, just may add some travel time. Happy...

Changes / tightening on servicing for investors

My guess would be BASEL II & III. They played too much in the 95%+ space and as the probability of default is higher the risk rating applied means the capital that needs to be held in reserve is also at a higher percentage. Now with talks still of banks needing to increase their capital...

Nor am I - just adding to the conversation. Azazel mentioned the population of the region and I was providing the ABS data to match.

According to the ABS there are currently 108,500 people employed in the region.

One thing I forgot to mention is Cairns market is a little unique when it comes to land as there is currently more demand for vacant land than what is being supplied which isn't usually the norm. There's a small subdivision in progress in Bluewater estate right near where the new tavern is...
