My First Reno! Photos, Feedback Please!

Wow! Fantastic job, it's come up really well. How did you go with the kitchen? Is it Ikea or Bunnings? It looks great! Assume you only replaced the cabinetry and not the appliances? Can't wait to see what you do next!

Re-tiling, re-waterproofing? Or just rip it back to the studs?

So this is the ensuite of the tumble-down cottage we just bought. The tiles are cracked, and mismatched, the shower recess is so dirty, I think that the glass doors are ruined with etched limescale, the vanity doors are hanging off, and it looks to me as if it hasn't been waterproofed properly...

Early in your investing career, how did you manage to fund renos?

When I bought my first property, I hocked my jewellery for the deposit. :D It was cash flow positive, so i got my sparklies back over time when the rent came in. Funding renos was paycheck to paycheck, and a LOC for the bigger stuff (new bathroom etc.) I also like to pay extra into the...

    Innerbath.com.au?

Wow MIZBUF their prices really surprise me. The site says that they come in at 1/4 of the price of a new bath. I guess they are including having the old bath removed, new bath purchased and installed (comprehensive quote) whereas I'd do much of the work myself and it would only be a fraction...

    Skylight in existing house?

We will be putting 2 into our new PPOR (miners cottage with many dark and creepy corners). I've been checking out eBay as sometimes there are surplus there for great prices. I'll get a builder/roofer to install it though.. I'm a bit too nervous about leaks! When doing a reno on older...

    Innerbath.com.au?

Has anyone used innerbath.com.au? Just wondering if they look as good as the pics show. Also, there is no indication of cost on the site.. wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark figure on how much one of these might cost? Cheers! Julia

    Leaky shower - options; re-seal versus re-tile

$1250 to have the shower retiled. Get thee to Bunnings. They can teach you the basics of tiling in an hour or two. Beumont Tiles also have a whole DIY section online where you can get some great info on doing it yourself. I never realised how much I was saving by doing it...

    Our "funky" fireplace... render it?

Thanks for the feedback folks - I'll paint it and see what it looks like once the rest of the room is done. I noticed that our local Bunnings runs workshops on rendering, so I can pick up some skills there if it comes to it. I've also read around the net that you can plasterboard them up too...

    Our "funky" fireplace... render it?

So the fireplace dominates the room and has at least 5 different finishes/colours I can see in the photo alone. (Negotiating access to the property pre-settlement as I type.. I think it has more in person.) I'm all for features.. but the slate has.to.go. Here she is: And I want it...

OK.. so what should I counter with?

My old PPOR is on the market.. llisted a week or so ago. http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-mirrabooka-109559586 We had plans of extending/recladding etc. The inside is all done and it's rented out at $260 a week. Very solid little house with lake glimpses. Had an offer...

    swap bathroom and laundry

I'd.. I'd be tempted to turn the lounge into the master bed, and turn bed 2 into the lounge (take out the builtins and maybe the wall between the bedroom and the hallway.) Then move the door to the laundry from the kitchen to the new lounge area. Obviously this has some draw backs...

    That Cessnock Renovation - Kitchen

that I did on the cheap.. finally got some pics of the "after" loaded. I used the same kitchen carcass and cupboard doors (I took the outer panel off the door frame for each door, painted it with metallic effects, and then reaffixed it to the inner side of the door.) Amazing what a paint job...
