WA - construction techniques will have to change.

Looks very similar to "thermalite" brick that certain builders in WA used for a very short time. Just a different and probably better implementation. Many had cracking issues due to not built correctly. Plaster had a habit of falling off. I've just finished fixing up one house. Every lintel had...

Floor covering for study with wheeled chair?

I picked a tight weave carpet at a local place and got them to make a mat out of it by hemming it. Went with 2m x1.5m which they got out of a scrap piece. Underneath is the vinyl planks. So far its holding up well.

    Divorces are great for Landlords

Not so great when one happens in a currently tenanted property sometimes. Start fighting over who's paying/not paying the rent. A couple alcohol fueled benders resulting in kicked in doors etc. One tenant went completely off the rails onto drugs. Agent selected tenants, decent properties...

To Flyscreen Or Not To Flyscreen?

Not sure what the QLD regs are like but with the whole "reasonably secure" tripe in the WA regs I would consider it a must from a security view.

    External door colour

Done several with colorbond "paperbark" equivalent. Current build went with full strength hogsbristle with the walls a lighter shade.

    Ebola threat

A lot of people calling for more to be done, but as long as its them not at risk. The various politicians demanding for medical staff to be sent should be packed on a plane to take their chances. If volunteers want to go, fine support them as much as possible but a proper quarantine for the...

    ETax 2014

I must have got one of the better helpdesk people. Was acknowledged there was a logged issue with importing some depreciation schedules for rentals. I tabbed through ever single field to check. No fix however. Delete and start again as originally posted. Still cheesed took ages to reenter it all.

Seller made changes to property after contract signed

Read the below. I'm pretty damn sure if the seller has not paid for it the neighbor can actually make you pay for it.... http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/publications/dividing-fences-guide

Dodgy Real Estate Agent won't hand over the ledger

He will declare bankruptcy and fair trading will give a slap on a wrist and tell him can't be director of a company for a few years. Conveniently no assets will be in his name and even when you spend a couple grand in legal fees you won't get anything back. He will operate under someones elses...

    Safety Switch

15yrs as a sparky, never seen one go bang/smoke up on a test button. Guessing they must be one of the cheap imports appearing in the last few years. Generally they just fail to trip. Or trip but won't reset.

    Safety Switch

In simple terms a circuit breaker is designed to trip at a given current and its main purpose is to prevent a damage or fire from excessive load. A safety switch, (RCD-Residual current device or ELCB) looks for a difference in the supply and return wires. If there is a difference it assumes a...

New Website - Get your credit score instantly

Agreed, there has been a few of these sites popping up recently. I personally would wait the week for the free Veda copy rather than give a site such a massive amount of personal details. Even if its perfectly legit they are storing that data which is one more possible location for it to be...

Builder Sues - house built on wrong lot

Builder Sues - house built on wrong lot

That's a considerable stuff up. Bit of a stretch to sue the water corp however. Wonder if all the soil reports, surveys etc were done for correct block.

    Residential Tenancy Act

I've been through it a couple times now. Below was one I recorded, but all be about a 8 weeks to get the physical eviction done when the tenant has strung it out to max. WA you have to give 14 days breach. Then 7 days eviction notice (form1a). Both of these take another day if you cant...

    Residential Tenancy Act

Wait till you have to make a major claim. No matter how good your insurrance is you will still get a lot of heart burn. The major thing that needs to be changed is tenants being able to skip without an address and disappear with court ordered payments owing. There is legislation in the act...

    America and its guns

They never learn. Here in Aust the few ranges I have been to beginners had their guns chained in such a way that they could only be fired downrange while still being able to move them around.. Use some common sense and it would be safe for the kid to firing the uzi whether or not you agree...

Product recall - Infinity Electrical Cable

Well damn, thankfully I think all mine is Olex. Like how they put the onus on the electrician to replace at their cost.

    Soakwell sitework cost WA

Council only specify total volume via litres per m2 of roof. If you want to use 1500D ones it won't be a problem as long as you have room to get them in. I remember there was a big jump over 1500D particularly for trafficable lids.
