    Building company - nominee

You wont find many crazy people to lend you their builder's licence, its worst then asking someone to lend you their wife, this takes more responsibility and more consequences later on, however there are people with no brains that would do this, these people usually don't understand how legal...

Vinly Cladding or Blue Board with Render

Dont do render on blueboard, it only looks good in first few months, later it cracks and looks terrible when sun hits it from side. Once it cracks you cant fix the crack, you have to render the whole wall again. These days you can find some very nice cladding boards from James Hardie or...

    New Build Update

Terrible. Fascia was ordered short, i don't think corner capping will even cover that, and even if it does it should of been installed before the gutter, as you wont be able to pop rivet upper end of it. Gutter hasn't been cut right on the corner, and the way they joined it looks...

    House underpin - need help!

First you need to find out why the damage happened in the first place, then fix the underpinning and leave it for some time to settle down, observe cracks over few months, and if its seems solid then fix visual cracks. Giving the whole job to the builder is ok, as long as he had experience...

plastering help: gaps bw arch and window

Solution1. Mark out architrave and cut the gyprock so that architrave sits inside of plaster. Solution2. Plain back of architraves, but not the part that sits on windows reveal. This is more work. Solution3. If window is not nailed all the way in, take the nails out and pull the...

Price estimate for an upper storey extension

No its not enough, $1500/m2 would be average for standard construction, plus all the other bits that can pump the price up to 2000. I'll never forget one addition that i did and it worked out to be $2000/m2 and i hardly made any money on it. Im a builder and have done many of these in NSW.

    Duplex common wall?

To answer your question, YES there is law for it, its clearly described in BCA. Double brick is one way of doing it, but there are other options out there, and each manufacturer has their system that could comply. But the system must be installed and must comply with BCA.

dodgy builder - is this house doomed?

Guys please don't talk non-sense about waffle pods, and how houses float on polystyrene. Polystyrene is there for thermal purposes only, there is much more engineering involved in that slab then you think. Im a builder btw. It just sends the wrong massage to people.

dodgy builder - is this house doomed?

There are major structural problems and defects in every photo, you should go to Fair Trading straight away and put a claim against the builder, otherwise if 7 yr warranty passes you cant do anything to him. That concrete is too high and there should be at least 50mm between finished...

    A Complete Granny Flat Build

I can see some issues with that landscaping around the house, that mulch and garden bed are too high and covering weatherboards, you are avoiding termite protection warranty by doing that, and there is easy access for termites now. There should be 75mm slab exposure all around.

    Floating Floorboards experience

You really have to have basic understanding on how to use the tools, and how to do something before you actually start doing it. They couldn't make it more easier that they did, to install these floors. There is specific routine on how to make the boards click together, and if they are...

    Bricks

JWR no offence but i had similar ideas when i was 10y old. Have you ever worked 1 day on a building site? I think you should stop playing xbox and go and do some labouring work, just to see how everything is put together. I have seen proffesional bricklayers demolishing bricks from 2 brand...
