    Stupidly cheap?

30k would make it slightly above land value. Not really worth it given the demo costs, and trying to get a new dwelling on the block that could give a decent return, surely?

FIFO - a question of fairness

Doesn't every generation think those who came after them are too soft, and have it easier than themselves? :)

Have dropped rent by $35... ouch!

$130 a week now, and even then there is a whiff of optimism at that price.

    2015-2016 Budget

I think a fairer benchmark for the Abbott gov would be 1996-era John Howard. When you put them side by side you begin to realise what a dud government we've elected, not that we were spoilt for choice this time around.

    2015-2016 Budget

This is going to directly affect local farmers here in the Bundaberg region who rely on recruiting and retaining properly paid foreign workers to get their crops harvested. The effects will flow on to the local businesses and the wider community. If the local member puts the whims of his...

Another over entitled mentality Gen Y

Seems like she regrets the decision she made, it doesn't seem like she's trying to blame anyone else for it. Committing to an buying property at 21 rules out a lot of adventures to be had early in life. I got the impression from the story that she regretted the decision she made to buy a place...

    Cashless Welfare Card

There's been quite a few teething problems, not sure if they've worked through them properly yet. One of the biggest problems they had rolling it out is that the system was/is to be policed by cashiers at shops, and that there was no way for Government to track what items were purchased in a...

    sceptical about QLD

Anyone wanting flood info can download the Queensland Globe add-on for google earth (see link below). It's got flood levels and aerial photography taken at the flood peaks, and a bunch of other data that may or may not be of use to some folk. We found it handy when looking at places in...

Nambour - What would you pay?

IMO there's an element of bravery buying anything in regional Qld at the moment. But then this might be the bottom of the market and those buying right now might well be geniuses (or lucky) in hindsight. :)

    Wage disparity

Such a predictable yawn this thread has become... the original post was referring to a discussion of why women, as a demographic, earn less than men, and points out that the gap is widening. To say, for example, that a female graduate engineer earns as much as male graduate engineer misses...

    Ipswich

I haven't had anyone comment that the Qld election result is a cause of poor sales. Slow and steadily rising unemployment, and low wage growth off an already low base will not do good things for increases in rent and CG. I think a lot of the increases in values in Ipswich and Logan and...

    Wage disparity

Yeah, I understand that's tongue in cheek, but if the system is disenfranchising half the population it proclaims to represent, then it's the system that's broken. Buggered if I know how to fix it though, I checked out of party politics years ago and suddenly realised what a poisonous effect it...

    Wage disparity

It's definitely something to think about. I understand people might want to dismiss this issue by saying "Women in position X get as much as Men in position X" and let it be. I tend to think about the issue of why female dominated occupations tend to get paid less than male dominated...

    Simplot

With processed/frozen food, we generally buy on a mixture of price and quality, sometimes it's Australian grown/made, sometimes it's not. From what I recall, Simplot has put a lot of effort into restructuring their business, and renegotiated a lot of the working conditions in their...

    Spill defeated

Bill Shorten will be happy, he won't have to articulate any ideas of his own for a bit longer and just coast along as a small target.

    Federal Leadership challenge called

Small target opposition leaders unwilling to outline contentious reform/policies until they secure government. Bill Shorten will probably face a similar problem if elected

    Federal Leadership challenge called

True. And that will be how its spun if Abbott gets the boot next Tuesday.

    Federal Leadership challenge called

To be fair, Abbott used that line about the electorate choosing the PM when he was in opposition during the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd saga. At least he's got a consistent message on this issue, even if he may only be acting in self interest.

    Federal Leadership challenge called

Abbott should be given a chance to be judged by the electorate on his performance. Perhaps if he survives the spill motion he should push for a double dissolution on the issues of his choosing to reestablish his authority over the backbench rabble and those leaking to the media.... Just a thought.
