    Capital Gains Tax on Gold?

Hello all, I have a quick question regarding the selling of gold coins and/or bullion. Is the selling of gold coin or bullion subject to capital gains tax at all? My initial thoughts are that it is not, but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance,

Suggestions Needed for First Home ~

Saving is the only way forward. It is slow, it is boring, but it is a good habit to be in. And, when you have enough saved up for a deposit on a house, there will probably be better deals around then anyway, (depending on how long it takes for you to save).

When You Apply For A Job...

Hi Penny, Spending, what's that? :p I'll just keep it in my interest account for the time being. I've got a tour around Europe coming up in May, so that will go towards spending money on that, I suppose. :) Thanks, Skater. :) I just hope this thread helps a few more people...

When You Apply For A Job...

Wow, it has been almost a year since this thread was last touched, (and many months since I've contributed to these forums — another story ), but some good news about this whole saga. The company went into administration (see previous post), and I had to prove to the...

    2008 US Presidential Election

I'm surprised by the number of Hillary Clinton supporters here, as she really doesn't stand for the change that she espouses in her soundbyte speeches. Obama is a bit the same, though he is the best of the Democrats, now that Dennis Kucinich has unfortunately dropped his bid for the White...

I'm bored. Anyone know of some interesting sites?

I have found some material on Austrian Economics here at mises.org to be rather fascinating... It may or may not be up your alley.

    Losing Faith

I think I may be losing faith — I need some positive reinforcement. I have been putting offers on what few properties that are popping up in my somewhat limited price range, but the low end of the market, especially units, is going crazy. Recent figures say that units in Adelaide have...

15 Offers On 1 SA Property ... Say What?

Hopefully this is the case. :) I didn't get a call back from the agent so I suspect he was telling the truth about having at least 15 offers on the property. An interesting situation for Adelaide...

15 Offers On 1 SA Property ... Say What?

My sentiments exactly. He tried unsuccessfully. I'm stubborn as anything when I want to be. :)

15 Offers On 1 SA Property ... Say What?

I put in an offer for a unit in Adelaide's inner south suburbs on the weekend and the agent just told me there have been 15 offers on the property, and asked if I wished to confirm my offer. There were a few at the open inspection, but no more than usual, I suppose. 15 offers is...

I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall

Also, if people don't want to invest and make money, then that's OK, as we need people to rent houses to. ;)

    I love my broker.

I would feel uneasy in investing in a complex with 100 apartments in it. Not enough freedom in the investment I believe. Might as well buy shares. :p

    Housing Affordability "Whingers"

I wrote this for my blog, but thought it was worthy of posting here... --- Well, the big news of today is that the cash rate has risen 25 basis points. It now stands at 6.5%. I am too young to remember the late 1980s and early 1990s where interest rates reached 20% — but it happened...

Very true. Another, very apt, quote is: When the Student is Ready, the Teacher will Appear.

    Leaf Blowers!

Leaf blowers are only useful if you blow the leaves into a corner and then switch it so it sucks, and suck the leaves into the attachable net, and dump it into a green-recycling bin. It's a pity people don't use them properly. Speaking of which, do all leaf blowers have a 'suck' mode?

    Free E-Book/DVD I Think You’ll Appreciate

Jamie McIntyre gives this out for free at all of his seminars. I've got a couple DVD/book combos lying around here. Very basic stuff, good for novices. On another note, spammish entry to Somersoft...
