    End of an Era

Thanks for having this forum all these years. I joined recently and going through people's investment stories and advice has been inspirational. Very sad to see Somersoft go but I look forward to hanging out on Property Chat.

Bad bad bad Journalism! Young Property Gun

I don't begrudge her success. She's done well and obviously has business acumen and I think she'll go on to bigger and better things. But yes, for this article to apply the "average young kid becomes self-made millionaire" trope is lazy reporting. I don't consider someone that sort of background...

Cracks along common wall of duplex

Hi Ace. Yes, it has a body corporate so will raise it with them at some stage. The complex was built on clay soil so I was aware of some cracking but not like this. My solicitor told me this arvo to get a 2nd opinion on whether these are structural or cosmetic.

Electrician & tiler recommendation - Canberra

    Good and ordinary RE Agents

Yes. I've been dealing with a mixed bag. Some have been knowlegeable and responsive to queries. Others were either uncommunicative or condescending. Or they didn't follow up on requests for info and spammed me with irrelevant crap from their mailing lists except what I asked for like the...

    Insurance Before Settlement Legally Required?

A timely post for me. I've just exchanged contracts on my first PPOR in ACT and noone has said anything about insurance before settlement. After reading this, I'm going to check with my solicitor first thing in the morning.

    what is your "why"?

For me, it's about financial freedom. There's the saying that the average person is just 2 paychecks away from bankruptcy. I have no intention of being that person. I want to have enough money for a comfortable lifestyle and to be able to pursue various hobbies. And like 4GH1RH, I'd also like...

Scope for negotiating prices in Canberra?

Thanks all for your feedback. It's been interesting trying to sort hype from fact, and being realistic about offers. For research I look at allhomes sales history and ksou. Can anyone recommend other sites that they're found useful? My budget is up to $450k and I'm after a 3 bedroom unit or...

Scope for negotiating prices in Canberra?

Hi. I live in Canberra and am researching to buy my first home here - PPOR, not off the plan, preferably somewhere around north-west Belconnen. I've read Margaret Lomas and Patrick Bright's advice on negotiating prices (e.g. never pay retail; walk away if the agent tells you another buyer is...
