    Insect that feels like fire

As we were driving a month or so ago, an insect landed on my leg. I went to pick it up and throw it out the window. Instead when I touched it, it felt like I picked up a hot needle. I screamed and dropped it. It was tiny little thing, about the size of the top of a straight pin. My finger...

    We had an interesting Day

We had an interesting day yesterday. background: About 3 weeks ago, our new tenants of 6 weeks, gave their "notice". On a Fixed term Lease, (in Canada) there are only a couple of ways a tenant can break a lease. One of them is by getting a doctor's note.Their lease doesn't end until June...

    TV show- Extreme Cheapskates

Last night, for the first time, I watched this show. Roband I are frugal, but we were disgusted by most of this show. There is something wrong with these people mentally, or it is exaggerated for ratings..probably a combination. Taking your spouse out to the restaurant and then hassling...

A waste of our tax dollars

Earlier this year, we reserved a 2 bedroom mobile for a family that was coming from Newfoundland. The husband was starting a new job. Their friends subsequently reserved the mobile, we also owned, next to this one, but they wouldn't be able to move into this until the current tenants moved...

    I'm Pathetic

That is what I was told yesterday by an ex-tenant :) Two years ago our departing tenants left owing about $800. We lodged to keep the bond plus stated we will be going for the arrears. Last year when we returned from Australia, we found the tenants, served them personally. They didn't...

    Why is gold important?

I'm sure there are some people on SS who can help me with this. To me gold is just a metal they make jewellry with. IF..and I say again...IF country A has 66% (I'm making up numbers here) of the world's mined gold and the other countries decided it was no longer fashionable to make...

    welfare vs frugal

I came across this blog a few days ago. It is written by an American in 2005, and I found it interesting. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1358150/posts I don't agree with everything. I don't think McDonald's would sell older burgers for 10c, instead of chucking them. It...

Who bought the $100 million lotto ticket

Just curious how many bought a ticket for the $100+ million dollar lotto for Tuesday? We bought one last week when it was $70 million. Always happy when we win any prize, and the $22 was no different. We splurged, and decided to let it ride...now have 18 chances at the big prize. If...

This summer (Canada) has been a nightmare

Why I haven't posted much lately. This summer (Australia's winter) has been a nightmare for us. At first I thought it was only us, but after speaking with others, it seems to be a lot of it going around. Remember checking on tenants is not the same here. There is no centralised database (Rob...

Tenant changed property from a 3 bed to a 2 bedroom

Today was a total shock. We had issued our tenant notice we were not renewing his lease, when his cheques bounced today. His lease expires automatically in 3 weeks, so no big deal. I had a couple of interested parties, so Rob and I scheduled a viewing today. When the door locks had been...
