That basically sums up all the reasons I need to completely rule Indonesia out of places I would even consider risking my money in. I'm sure people can & will make tons of $$$ there, but unless you have money to gamble with, there are plenty of much safer options.

I was hoping that being on the Sunshine Coast, it would have been too humid to have to worry much about bushfires. But all that oiling is certainly a dream-killer! Looks like no Ewok Village for me :(

The real timber, for me, is what gives it its charm, so I would hate to clad. I would also hate to have to be paying to have it oiled every 5-7yrs, so I'll have to rule this style out I think.

Yes, I think despite the population growing at a pretty good rate, the rate of housing supply has been quicker, particularly on the western side. Here's hoping for the 'ripple effect' Finrod speaks of to kick in.

I also prefer the side-by-side & would not personally want to live in a rear battle-axe property & figure it may reduce your pool of potential tenants/buyers.

They are nice houses & attract tenants & owner occupiers of a decent socioeconomic background. Hopefully the crime was just a spate - I know they have caught several 'recidivist' offenders that were involved.

I realise this reply is probably too late, but as for the 'Bads'. As others agreed, the 10km out of town really does make it a long way out of Ballarat & I don't really see any pay-offs for that - no beautiful countryside & just normal size suburban house blocks. The airport is in use...

I hear you! Made myself nauseous lately with IP resarch overload. Trying to step back & get some perspective ATM & realise I don't have to act immediately & that if one boat leaves there will always be another :p

Thanks for the heads up ej89, great news on the jobs front. At the moment there's a very particular property I'm interested in, but if I miss out on that I will start looking more seriously around for something else.
