What Warren Buffet Has Bought Since June 2013

The man is a genius. Have you noticed he's dumped his long-standing holdings in the Washington Post? Should have done it years ago but I guess he had a sense of loyalty to Katherine Graham who was still alive back then. His best timed sale, in my opinion, was Petro China.

What Warren Buffet Has Bought Since June 2013

This is your first post - welcome to the forum. Good point Galumay. BH is indeed a whale of a company. There's even talk of including it in the Dow Jones 30 index. Personally, I'm keener on small caps myself - even if they have a tendency to go belly-up more often than they should.

    Why do you do it?

She was a battler, a strong willed woman with a huge heart. It was a scant two years from diagnosis to death. She fought her illness tenaciously. By Feb 2012, it had spread to her lymph nodes and elsewhere. Although she must have been in a lot of pain, it didn't stop her from posting on this...

What Warren Buffet Has Bought Since June 2013

As brilliant and benevolent as he is, I am no longer a huge fan of Warren Buffet's stock picking style these days. Buffett today is so different from the young, aggressive fellow that he was back in the 1950s - 1970s. In those days he was not interested in modest, incremental gains, as he...

A Dodgy Investment - A Dying Man Wants His Money Back

There's no comparison. ACA and TT make money from advertising. Jenman, on the other hand, spends his own money standing up for underdogs, or so it would appear. Perhaps he is a well intentioned do-gooder narcissist?

A Dodgy Investment - A Dying Man Wants His Money Back

Well, the person in question was a solicitor, albeit disbarred. Some would argue it's all the victim's fault. A fool and his money are easily parted, as the bible says. I know nothing about Jenman's system. What I do know is that he does a great deal for the underdog.

A Dodgy Investment - A Dying Man Wants His Money Back

Forgive me TB. I never mentioned that he was a lawyer until Aaron mentioned it. There are many decent people in Law and it was not my intention to sully the entire industry. That the protagonist was a former lawyer is irrelevant - much more relevant is the fact that he deceived a sick old man...

A Dodgy Investment - A Dying Man Wants His Money Back

Forgive me, my learned friend. How about we put it this way: "A disbarred lawyer who was giving a naive old man dodgy financial advice? "

A Dodgy Investment - A Dying Man Wants His Money Back

This cautionary tale is from Neil Jenman's site. For all of those forumites who listen to financial advisers, maybe its time to take things into your own hands and think thrice before listening to slick gurus and salespeople. http://www.jenman.com.au/news_alert.php?id=107

Is this the magic formula for capital gain?

You are overthinking OP. Just go out there and buy cheap stuff, in the lowest decile of local prices. Using this simple logic, it is almost impossible to go wrong. Of course, you are better off doing it when the market is not as hot as it is now.

    Navra Legal Action

For Lord Sim There is a perception in the wider community that many "financial advisers" are dodgy people who make more out of their commissions than they do from investing. Faced with this reality, most mum and dad investors prefer to go it alone; they can hardly be called sophisticated...

What is this all about... China's ghost cities

China is awash with cash. There's no place for the money to go except to build white elephants.

Sometimes life throws a curve ball....

Looking back at her posts is a moving experience. Oh how she tried, she did her best at all times. One year on, I hope she is in a better world, free from pain and suffering. May God Bless you Penny and all who you left behind.

RIP Penny K - One Year Gone

It's been almost a whole year since Penny K, one of this forum's favourite members, passed away after a long and brave struggle with cancer. From diagnosis to death was a scant 2 years. If I recall correctly, she posted almost until the end, never once complaining about her situation. RIP...

    Solar Panels

Some rural farmers in the far north use large battery storage systems, complete with panels and automatic backup diesel genset. The better systems cost around $80,000 - the government used to pay half of this. $40,000 - $80,000 and never pay for power ever again! (If only it were as...
