Sharing with sibling for first property - advise needed

Hi Marg, On paper it would belong to her but if I help out with the repayments, we agree to split whatever capital gains/ equity in the future between ourselves. I know it must sound silly but i'm not sure if there's a better way to do it... Come to think of it the FHS account...

Sharing with sibling for first property - advise needed

No benefit in being the lead tenant. Only that she earns much more than me so we were trying to go down the way of her taking out the loan. On paper, it would be her name but really we would be sharing the repayments. It would be less for her as the other room will be rented out to a 3rd party...

Sharing with sibling for first property - advise needed

Hi Steve, Thanks for the advice. But she is only a resident and not a citizen of NZ so I think that pretty much cancels out any chance of us splitting the mortgage according to the FIRB link. :(

Sharing with sibling for first property - advise needed

Hi all, I've been wanting to get a property for awhile now but my income has always been an issue (about $40k/pa after taxes). My sibling, who is living in NZ and is a resident there, is thinking of giving me a helping hand. The idea was to put the loan and property solely under her name...

Young first timer needs some advice

Hi Luckyrooster, You can just hop into any bank and have a brief discussion with the customer service. Usually they will give you a good indicator if you need to speak to a loans officer or not, after seeing your savings and income slip. Having said that, you may explore the option of...

    Growing capital

Woohoo! Finally my first thread that got a reply (my first two bombed at the box office :p ). Yea Alex, I have no qualms about saving or waiting for years and years to finally see some returns. Just that being in my mid-20s and after reading on how you started with your savings at 21 and some...

    Growing capital

I was just reading the Tall Poppy Syndrome thread and remembered I posted on how not so long ago, a mate of mine was trying to get into property. But I haven't a clue on property at that time, so I couldn't offer much help. Last month, we caught up again and he said he is now into shares. The...

    Tall Poppy Syndrome

Think my family is pretty cool about it, since it was part of Dad's influence in the first place. After he retired from his job at the firm, he decided to have a go at selling RE part-time with some of his mates. What got the ball rolling though were my colleagues talking about purchasing an IP...

    Buying Holiday Accomodations

Just got off the phone from the agent. Was pretty nervous as this is my first call for an IP ever! Had no idea what to expect. I guess maybe the reason why units are so cheap up here is because a) there are 15 units in the resort, therefore all profit is divided by 15 and not on individual...

    Buying Holiday Accomodations

Hi all, I currently work and live in a coastal suburb in QLD. I've been watching the local RE scene closely but according to homepriceguide, my suburb only has about a 9% long term trend. Recently, one of the resorts put up a unit 1 Bed and 1 Bath for sale for about 100k. Compared to other...

New to PI - invest in same city?

Not sure if you've seen this link but hope it helps. Am I better off buying one property for $200,000 or two for $100,000? Cheers.

    Performing DD

Hello fellow forumites, Recently introduced into property when a colleague of mine spoke about buying a 200k property with his girlfriend. Although this is my first post, I have been an avid reader of this forum for the past 2 months. So I am still fairly green. I have just recently...
