    nightmare removalist

We moved recently from a 2-storey house to another 2-storey house and it cost us around $350 for nearly 5 hrs (2 guys; everything was boxed). The going rate for 'ordinary' removalists (usually Asians in our area) is 60-65 per hour plus appearance fee (???). Nothing was damaged except for minor...

Regarding appliance and floorboard warranties when moving into a 2 year old house

Can't this be transferred if this is the case? I'm worried about the oven and the AC unit (even the gas fireplace) as they're the expensive ones to fix when they break down.

Regarding appliance and floorboard warranties when moving into a 2 year old house

Thanks Merc69. So the floorboards' warranty is included in the building warranty? I'll double check the docos that were given to us.

Regarding appliance and floorboard warranties when moving into a 2 year old house

We're moving into a 2-yr old house with relatively new appliances (ducted air, oven, gas fireplace, etc.) and 2-yr old floor boards. My question is what is normally done regarding transfer of warranties to the new owner? Do I have the right to acquire them? This is our first time moving into an...

    Sam Stosur! US Open.

A bit of an off-topic. Federer’s in town to play Davis Cup this weekend! The only thing that irritates me is that they’re not playing at the Olympic park where the “masses” can watch. They’ll have it at the Royal Sydney Golf Club at Rose Bay to play on grass courts (to give them advantage...

    Sam Stosur! US Open.

Well done, Sam! The years of hard work paid off, finally! I hope this brings tennis back to the lime light and encourage most of the kids to take up tennis. The sport really needs a boost in this country.

    Tv - Show Renovators

I love the Blacktown house but I'm not sure about the place. Can they achieve their target price? I will also have an issue with the old fence - the one with the gaps opposite the pool - no privacy from neighbours!

How much do you need to live every year?

Just checked on this last week and I chose $15-$30K per year for two people. Our budget for the year including food, bills, leisure and holidays is 20K. This excludes the car and mortgage repayments. Our car is novated leased (so this already includes petrol, maintenance and insurance) and it's...

Saw John McEnroe play tennis last night

I watched the matches yesterday afternoon with Ivanisevic vs Enqvist and Rafter vs Laconte playing. There was a good crowd considering it was a working day... mostly retirees. I didn't like Laconte when he commentated for the Aussie Open this year (too loud!) but he provided most of the...

Diet, Exercise and Weight loss - help!

Yes, but for me I also have to check the (bad) cholesterol content. Some people are lean but their arteries are all clogged-up... not good! :(

Diet, Exercise and Weight loss - help!

Hi everyone, I'm happy to say that I have lost 18kg since I started the thread last Feb. From 110kg, I'm now 92kg. Actually, I have achieved the 18kg before winter started and it got a bit too cold for me so I started eating more (but NOT much more than needed). I've also lowered the...

Do tenants iron on the carpet?

I did iron my clothes several years ago but discovered that when you hang your clothes immediately while they're hot from the dryer, they'll smoothen out. It works for most of my clothes and the ones that don't stay inside the closet. :D

Is it worthwhile investing 5K in shares?

Thanks for this Redwing. I'll also look into this... For 5K to grow quickly I think I have to trade but I have to really read and learn more so that I won't get caught again. I think the share pack is for long-term investing which I'm also interested in... but with only 5K (one-off) I'm not...

Is it worthwhile investing 5K in shares?

Interesting read everyone! I guess I have to read and learn more before going back again. Went to the library and got some books - some about "getting rich" books (to get motivated) and some specifically about shares. Random, interesting story... can I ask what your initial strategy was in...

Is it worthwhile investing 5K in shares?

Thanks for the replies. I'll read all of them this evening. As for what happened to the previous 5K, I placed it all on several small caps a few months before the GFC hit. I was gaining some and losing some so I was ok... until one day everything went down and unfortunately for me I didn't have...

Is it worthwhile investing 5K in shares?

I have a measley 5K to play with and I want to try shares again. I say again becuase I have tried it before (same amount) and GFC ate it all up. I just tried my luck but I unfortunately it wasn't there at that time. Anyway, if this is all the money I can put into shares, is it still...

    Need to apportion?

I kind of don't get the above... 1. If I have a 400K loan without offset and 100K redrawn for investment, I can tax-deduct the interest on the whole 100K. 2. But if I have 400K loan with 50K offset, for example, and 100K redrawn for investment, why can't I tax-deduct the interest on the...

    Need to apportion?

I thought a redraw is almost the same as a LOC... but apparently not with an offset... :(
