Definitely all about the location. 1 bed unit in a small country town could be a disaster, but one that has a view over the bridge and opera house in Sydney could be a goldmine especially for short term holiday rentals.

The comment about a divorce costing around 60% was one I could vouch for. Also bought an IP at the top of the market in 2008. Just about breaking even now with the rent, but could still not sell it for what I paid for it.

Thanks for the info on the seminar. I have seen the same format in Perth with having to sit through a whole day of marketing to get to the star speaker who everybody came to see. It's a shame to see RK involved in this as I really got a lot out of his earlier work and Rich Dad Poor Dad...

There have been suggestions on threads before and I made a list and put it in my wallet. I found many recommended titles by browsing the op shops. It's amazing what great reference books get sold for $1

It's a grey area. Before I ask the ATO I would bear in mind that they are in the business of collecting taxes.....

I'm looking at doing some home exchanges for a couple of months a year to really get a feel for a place before I decide if I want to stay there for an extended time.

I use tripadvisor to get prices and find out what the place is really like, then try the hotel website directly and have often found a better deal.
