Heres the latest article from news.com More people to fix as interest rates come down, experts say INTEREST rates are tipped to hit a record-low by winter - and analysts say this makes fixed-rate home loans a good idea again. The popularity of fixed-rate loans collapsed to a record-low...

After the latest 1% cut announcement, how long does everyone think it will take before the banks start reducing their fixed rate loans? I'm hoping for a 5 year fixed with ANZ at least in the low 6's and anything lower will be a bonus.

OMG That would be fantastic if ANZ offered a 5 year 4.99% fixed rate. I worked it out and my repayments would be $163 a week on my ppor. Unf***** believable. Will be able to save and invest even more then!! :D

Well in September when I bought my place my mb recommended to me that when there is a 6 in front of the number for fixed rate it'd be a good idea to go fixed, so since then I said i'd be happy with mid 6's. But now that rates have been coming down a lot I think people are wanting 4's and 5's. I...

Yey i've been waiting for ANZ to get into the 6's region. I wander if it'll go lower though, cos there is still another meeting in February. I'm on 6.4 % atm, it could be worthwhile going for this one. I'll give mb a call tomorrow and see what he recommends.

But what happens if your loan is IO though. Would it still go towards repaying the principle?

    5 year fixed rates thread

I'm wandering whether to go 50 sv / 50 fixed or 30 sv / 70 fixed. What happens if/when I have $53 K savings in my offset account? Does it just mean that I wont be making any payments towards my variable loan? I have an IO loan. Does the 70 fixed 30 variable split sound like a good...

Eddie i have been thinking the same thing too. But then i remembered what my mb said to me a couple of months ago about splitting the loan. I'd like to find out some more about this though.

Are you talking about split loans? How do I go about changing over to a split loan? My loan is with ANZ, Breakfree, standard variable. I bought in September this year as a fhb. Can I change it from standard variable to a split loan of 50% fixed and 50% variable. I think this might be...
