"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

Folks live in a suburb of choice because of how it is....how it is now. When that image changes enough that they don't like the image; in their mind it's time to move out. Sadly; the non-PC explanation is they only want what they had before - if that was a mostly white neighborhood, then...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

I didn't think the ISIS crowd were motivated by political power - I thought they were motivated by a religious ideology, which would see the whole world become their ideology or die? Naturally, they would end up "in power" if this ever eventuated; but it's a religious mind they are exercising...

Thanks for that, Perp. My suspicion is; now that China is fast becoming the centre of the Universe; will Europe be the new "west". :) The Middle east will be the "wild west." Who will be the East? Gotta be the USA? :p How about New York as the "far east"?

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

Only when it involves violence or the threat of it, from my experiences. They reported the incident of a guy being randomly attacked and stabbed on the St.Kilda pier the day before yesterday. He was probably drug crazed, but left the scene before anyone could identify him or his motives...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

Sadly, Sanj; it seems that the religion is the precursor to the behaviour and the act. See above. There is a trend, unfortunately. They had an ISIS flag. The two guys may not have been Muslim; but the evidence is fairly strong apparently that they were acting under instructions from, or in...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

Had a thought about a new "white flight" (or any other colour flight reason), and it may be poo-hooed, but it is becoming a real reason for folks - The latest news of the two young guys arrested yesterday by the ATF/Feds or whoeve;r after a tip-off that they were planning a terrorist attack...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

It was actually a serious question. I really do not know this; it has been around since I can remember, but I've never known the origins of when and how the regions came about. How did the areas get named, and when? Where does East begin and end, where does middle east begin and end, and so...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

I think that when you have almost entire suburbs changing the signage to only the language of the residents, and no English language signs anywhere (English is still the main language spoken in Aus and has been for 200 odd years) this could be considered as replacing existing culture with your...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

LOL! I try my hardest to move away from much of the white Aus population; not closer to them. :D

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

That's mostly correct. It also refers to the area where the world's populations live. I don't know how they came up with the West and the East; given that the planet is round. I mean; how did we arrive at descriptions of places like Afghanistan etc being the "Middle-East"? I have also heard...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

My interpretation of westerner is a WASP...cowboys, white folks who eat cucumber sandwiches and drink fine tea, or the full-on Aussie skank-bogan with the mullet, Conformadore and poor attitude, or the Yank WW11 flying ace who is chivalrous and brave. Loads of different versions of White...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

LOL! I can always count on you to drag out a stat  - that in this case is misleading, and you are ill-informed as a result. ;) 37.8% were born in Aus - that has no representation to colour or race, and while they might be Aussie born; culture is always a very strong aspect of...

"White Flight" - Could this trend happen in Australia?

Like Clint Eastwood in "Gran Torino"? Seriously though; my Parents-in-law live in Noble Park and have done so since the mid-60's. I've been visiting there since I met my wife back in 1983. All the "WASP" folk have slowly and steadily moved out (except my PIL) of that suburb.
